Ah… no. We are talking about at my agency, we have the infrastructure, now what is it going to take to get the N+1 employee to bike to work.

Bribes, or a “best legs” competition, or knock out the power to the elevators for a few days.

I’m riding it this afternoon but have no hope of finding anything… well maybe the bright yellow Pedro’s lever. Bummer, I had just stocked it up with goodies from the “what to carry” thread. Not impressed with the TimBuk2 seat bags…

That bill has been on/in my bikes for years… it’s depreciated right?

For what it is worth I switched to a Banjo Brothers wedge a while back and really like it . Depending on how long you had the 50 spot in there it could be worth as much $52.37 by now… better investment than a bank, although I don’t think banks distribute your cash along a bike path, so there’s that.

If you are feeling intrepid, I lost a Park patch kit somewhere on the CCT between LFP and the WO&D (seat bag came unzipped)… it also has a $50 bill in it so if you find it you get a kit and a prize! (Actually, I’ll buy you several patches and some beer if you find my fifty bucks).

I have a funny feeling that part of the CCT will be pretty congested for the next few days! I’ll keep my eyes peeled for you!

Oh no! I think you need to throw a black cat over your shoulder – or bicycle backwards under a broken mirror!

Ha ha, I know.. seriously, after all the jokes we made yesterday about it. Funny thing was about 5 different riders cycled past me who I know had received a free kit and none asked if I needed help… unbelievable.

Best of luck Tim, when you get back we’ll celebrate with tetanus shots and whisky chasers at the next happy hour.

I am currently training for the “beat Dirt to the empty table” fondo, so I will certainly be there but who knows if i’ll medal.

This summer I have the joy to send my kids to summer school by car. I get the joy of crossing the W&OD at both Shreve Road and West Street. The sight lines at both intersections are pretty bad. The actual traffic pattern behaves completely different from the signage. From my perspective as both a driver and cyclist, I am afraid, very afraid.

Yep, those two crossings give me hives, I almost always hold my breath when crossing….. I never know what’s coming over that hill!

I have a different take on this scenario. Too many times I have declined to be that “follow-up” rider and have treated the crossing as a four way stop, only to have the hackneyed and farcical “Alphonse and Gaston” scene play out in slow-motion as my stomach begins to turn. The drivers are waving me through, I’m waving them through. THEY’RE insisting, now I’M insisting. Meanwhile, another rider has come up from behind and, with a snort, bypassed the entire tragicomic melodrama that we have decided to stage, and has simply blown through the intersection. Finally either I or the drivers have to relent and accept the others’ courtesy. As I’m fumbling, cursing and clipping in, I’m sure all involved are thinking, “geez, it would have saved me time if you had just GONE!”

So now, if I see drivers stopped, with a healthy dose of good judgement and discretion, if I can follow-up and save everyone some time, I do. I figure some assertiveness just expedites the whole exchange.

I am going to use “tragicomic melodrama” from now on… love it… it will replace my “Catastraphuck” from now on!

Feel better soon, and you should certainly bedazzle the crap out of that cast. I love essigmw’s idea of a “happy hour signing session”….let’s get on that! For what it is worth I suggest a really good 20yr old scotch to sooth the pain each night.

Some great advice here, and if nothing else your incident has probably helped many of us re-think how to deal with a similar incident should it occur. Most importantly, you’re alive and relatively unscathed. Make sure over the next few days you continue to check yourself for possible injuries that didn’t show up at first. But most importantly get back on the bike as soon as you feel fit. I had a terrible accident many years ago and expunged ALL of cycling from my life, I was just too scared to ride again. It took me 15 years to get back in the saddle. All the best to you, glad you’re OK.

HAHA…. brilliant! If you’ve got the room I’ve got the tools and machines to build it…. all we need is an insurance agent and lawyer to get on board!

The world is now a safer place thanks to the removal of a bollard collar on the Falls Church City Trail (that most W&OD cyclists use instead of the REAL W&OD) near East Falls Church

Yep, I donated one of my lungs to fill the hole, notice the lovely color…… You’re welcome.
