The socks I like even better than Smartwool are those by Swiftwick. They’re more expensive, but I found they last longer and have a better temperature range for me. My feet are comfy at lower and higher temperatures.

I got a pair of Swiftwick socks as a gift last summer and love them for summer riding…. great compression, no hot spots, and they keep my feet dry. However, I haven’t tried their winter variety. My favorite winter socks are the PI Thermal socks… Merino wool, tall cuff, thin, warm, dry and pretty odor free….although pricey. In really cold weather I have been using PI’s softshell booties for years and love them, although they are just about to fall apart so I ordered their new PRO WXB bootie which haven’t arrived yet… shocker!… I’ll report later.

Did you have any issues getting those fenders to mount to the fork? It looks like the large attachment points on the fenders won’t actually fit snug up to the fork for most types of fender (Planet Bike, etc).

Hey Dave. I ended up just using a couple of hard plastic spacers from Home Depot and longer bolts so the mounts would fit flat against the eyelet mount on the fork. The space for the quick release is a little tight but works. I bought the Planet Bike Cascadia fenders as they were slightly longer than other fenders and they came with mud flaps which I love. I have had these on now for about 2 months without any issue. How do you like your Caadx?

Finally getting around to posting my rides.

My favorite bike to ride is my 2004 Bianchi SL3, Aluminum frame, Carbon fork, Campy Centaur through-out, corners like a cat on carpet, but still pretty comfy… I call her Priscilla. She’s the boss!

I just purchased a cross bike for winter/crap weather riding, Cannondale Caadx6 with Tiagra. LOVE it… such a comfy ride, never been happier. His name is Ollie. Notice the Sandy Hook sticker on the top tube!

And finally my get around town single speed Specialized Globe Daily 1 for weekend outings with my wife to Bayou bakery. He’s so slow I have to dress in appropriate clothing. His name is Stratford.

I want everything Smartwool & Ibex make. I ordered a PI Barrier balaclava, I shall report back :D

Kel – I’ve Been using the PI Barrier balaclava lots this year and I really like it. Very warm for such a light material and I love how long the neck guard is. I generally don’t cover my nose and mouth as it doesn’t breath all that well, but now I’m looking to pair it with such an item.

I contacted them today via FB to see if Proteus can help out. They are selling SHROW top tube stickers for $5 as a fundraiser. I’m ordering 20 to start and should have them for sale at the shop by next week. Let me know if anyone wants one! — Laurie

You are the best Laurie, thank you so much for taking an interest and being so pro-active. The stickers I believe were actually an idea from my friend the bike shop manager, perhaps I should put you both in contact. Regardless, much appreciated and I will post a message on my FB page about where to get stickers. Cheers – Dickie

Would they be interested in having Kidical Mass join them for the last stretch? If so, we could reach out to Megan…

I think that is a fantastic idea. I will certainly pass along all the suggestions to the organizers and hopefully get some responses from them soon. In the mean time would you mind sharing the info with Megan so she can see the facebook page for herself?

Was looking for a similar solution myself for my new cross bike. The seat wedgie interferes with my rear lights and is a pain to get to. Plus I want to be able to reach my phone easier for amusing picture opportunities. How do you like the Bento? Where did you get it?

Sent an email this morning, hopefully it will at least get heard…. had far too many close calls lately with this, last night was perhaps the worst of all. I think the NDC – “National Dooring of Cyclists” convention was being held in Clarendon last night…. yikes!

That’s bloody frightening, I ride that route everyday like many of us. Let’s hope these thugs aren’t smart enough to realize bikes and gear are far more profitable than a watch and sunglasses…. might have to increase my speed on this stretch and install a stun gun on my handlebars. Hope the jogger is well….. good to hear ARLO PD caught the suspects.
