    They launched e-bikes recently too.

As I’m from England I chuckled they chose to call them Lime-E

Neat about ebike rental in Old Town.

Yes, I also appreciate they’ll be selling the ex-rentals with a 1 year warranty on the battery.

A Pedego dealer Todd Ketch recently opened in Alexandria. He will be on a panel at the 2018 National Bike Summit in March in DC talking about the ebike industry effort to encourage states to adopt the 3-tier ebike classification.

have to find a place that takes the DC commuter bike checks and can rebuild a wheel on a pedelec.

Regarding the commuter checks here’s a shop finder:

Some of the locations are out of date eg District Hardware has moved to a new location down on the Southwest Waterfront. Bikes@Vienna is on the list, but call ahead to be sure.

I thought I’d share, I first came across adult kick scooters using bicycle components when driving through Lancaster County Pennsylvania where the Amish use them. Sure enough you can now buy them with an ebike hub motor, or if you own huskies sled dog powered, which do you think would get to the top of a hill first :)

    THE WHO

    1) What groups should have voices on the BAC?
    2) Who should have input on biking in Arlington?
    3) What existing groups should we work with?

I’d like the BAC to continue to represent local resident cyclists and bike shops. I want people who live, work, go to school, and ride around Arlington to continue to be able to communicate our interests to the County government and federal agencies responsible for the bike trail network and connections to adjacent jurisdictions, and counter influence from large commercial interests with their own agenda e.g. possible Amazon HQ, Dockless Bikeshare companies, etc.

Given the feedback from September’s survey from female riders I think exploring opportunities to construct additional PBL’s should be a priority, the proposed one for Quincy St from Glebe Rd to Custis Trail would be helpful for students, parents, swimmers, residents wanting to get to and from the Custis Trail, commuters, etc.

Might there be a way to work with APS to use the Safe Routes to School framework to recruit cyclists willing to take a background check who are prepared to escort children who would like to ride all or part of the way to school with someone? Might be difficult to maintain but could help counter harassment. Recruitment via PAL’s, WABA membership, etc.

Ask WABA to run the family bicycling adult education class that was cancelled last fall but invite them to run it in Arlington, work with APS, Arl Co Libraries, & Bike Arlington to promote locally via publicity posters in schools and libraries, maybe ask them to coordinate promoting the event with colleagues in the wider DC, VA, MD region.

Await the evaluation of the DC Dockless Bikeshare trial and work with the District on revising operating guidelines in light of feedback/lessons learned, only then explore bringing it to Arlington.

My bike is a Juiced Cross Current. They don’t make it anymore, but now have the Cross Current S which is better/upgraded. It’s a good bike at a really good price compared to the e-bikes you see in store around here. The downside is that you have to buy direct and with no dealer network on this coast, after-sales support can be tough, but it’s getting better.

I liked the original Cross Current, and the ODK cargo ebike it’s a pity it looks like Tora isn’t getting those in anymore as the small wheel size and step-through frame meant it fit shorter people. However I wish Tora hadn’t specced the controller on the latest batch Cross Current S to have an off-road unlimited setting, the publicity video on the Juiced website demonstrating 31mph performance is at odds with labelling them with the Class 3 decal which is defined as <28mph. FLX are behaving similarly claiming 30mph performance then print 'where laws permit' get-out wording on their website, the EBR review on the FLX Roadster has them struggling over this saying it falls into an undefined Class 4 category which just muddies the water further. Those ebikes are capable of speeds that fall into the moped/motor-driven-cycle category under most states law.

Thanks for the link to the Kojo show recording that was interesting, the Lime Bike guy’s request for 20,000 dockless bikes sounds too many, Greg Billing’s offhand mention of 10,000 still sounds too many. Looking forward to reading DC DDoT’s evaluation at the end of the trial period, their spokesperson sounded supportive in principle, but the show highlighted a lot of groundwork is still needed.

JUMP was better received at last month’s ward meeting to discuss DoBi than the other companies because they require you use a supplied U-Lock to end your rental.

I read a tip about tying a toe strap around one end of the tire/wheel, squeeze down and tighten the strap, then squeeze down out from that point until you reach the top when they just pop over the rim, works for me, and I love Schwalbe Marathon Greenguard in the past year I’ve bought three pairs and just put a pair of 20″ on my daughters bicycle trailer. Kenda Tires also compete for puncture-resistance.

So was my bikeshare saddle…thank you one of my students who arrived by bikeshare just after I took the last dock outside work – you were gracious enough to accept directions to the next station.

So sorry to read about your friend’s daughter’s experiences. The other commenters suggestions about finding someone to ride with, a camera, helmet light, all sound good. For a brighter front headlight I’ve found Peter White cycles helpful regarding lighting. If she is over 14 she can legally ride an ebike in Virginia, Crazy Lenny’s in Wisconsin are currently doing a deal on an iZip E3 Vibe Plus for $490 plus $200-300 shipping, to get out of Dodge you can add a $50 “boost button” to over-ride the pedal assist and accelerate the ebike up to its 20mph top speed, it comes pre-wired with spade connectors for 6V DC lights running off the battery pack and Peter White can advise what ebike lights would work, cost maybe $50-150 for a high lux headlight.
