ParticipantIn cold weather keep the battery indoors when not riding, maybe try a neoprene sleeve if you’re out riding for a few hours. https://www.fahrer-berlin.de/en/e-bike/fahrer-akku-cover/

Re: NACTO guidelines document, on Page 9 the section titled “Small Vehicle Standards for the Shared-Use Context” describes limits localities could apply to regulate shared-use bikes, e-bikes, and e-scooters. The 15mph speed limit is less than the 20mph speed limit required to meet the CPSC & Class 1 e-bike definitions. Presumably the companies would need to demonstrate compliance in order for these shared-use vehicles to be operated on sidewalks and bike paths/trails?

Chinese-made e-bikes, which include bikes sold by Trek, Giant, Raleigh Electric, Pedego and other brands, would be subject to a 25 percent tariff under a proposal released Friday. The tariff, which could take effect in a matter of months, would increase the retail price of the bikes by hundreds of dollars, perhaps enough to make them uncompetitive with e-bikes made elsewhere, and dampening interest in one of the bike industry’s most promising sectors. And now the EU follows with a huge 83.6% anti-dumping import tariff on Chinese ebikes.

I like the idea of having a throttle, which would greatly add to my ability to ride 25 miles in my work clothes.
Maybe for the Rad bikes I haven’t tried them, but on my 250W bafang mid-drive the throttle is more like telling the bike to “gee-up”, I actually like that as I only use it to get going or low speed manouvering up alongside traffic when I’m next to the curb. That being said there’s nothing wrong with the motor, it assists me up some fairly steep hills at 8mph in low gear on my Nexus 8 IGH, eg up to Ft Scott Park from 4 Mile Run the other day which I found mildly astonishing.
As for the OP, full retail on the Stromer ST2 S is $10 grand, $6-7 grand would get you a dual battery 1,000wh Bosch speed pedelec like the Riese & Muller Charger GX Touring HS, or Supercharger GT Touring HS, from Electricity Bikes in Tenleytown. You could spend under $5 grand if you went DIY, Grin Tech could outfit you with a direct drive hub motor, bottom bracket pedal torque sensor plus throttle, programmable controller, Allcell 1100wh battery with an 8a fast charger, to fit on your choice of touring bicycle.

ParticipantI just bought a rash guard off Amazon that’s polyester as I foolishly got a sunburn last week visiting a pool, I hope it’s not a heat trap so thanks for the tip about using free and clear. I usually wear just regular cotton t-shirt and shorts riding in the summer and change into my work clothes after I cool down – I love my desk fan.

ParticipantThanks for that, The Post predicts light breeze coming off the ocean for July 4th, but for the rest of today Phew what a scorcher!

ParticipantI got this info from a colleague who cycles into work at Children’s National Health System: there are 2 areas with bike racks—one is on P1 near the patient drop off area and the other is near the Emergency Room. The area near the Emergency Room is supposed to be more secure—we had a number of bikes stolen from the P1 parking area.

Agree, just north of there I’ve seen a dad run after his tot riding a scooter with no brakes down that bloody steep private driveway entrance to Oakgrove park at 15th and N Quincy – I had my heart in my mouth thinking the child would just hurtle into the street in front of the traffic. I don’t think the residents would agree to concrete planters if its their right of way.
