Did we ride near each other for a time in the first lap?

You forgot to zip up your jersey crossing the finish line.

I did this once a couple of years ago, set an alarm for 11:35pm or something, did a short ride before midnight, and started a new ride just after midnight to cover two days. That was one of the hardest rides all winter. Not that I’m always asleep by then, but if I am – I’m out.

I have a short <3mi loop now that includes 3 Strava segments (that I made), which keeps things a little more interesting.

Drive to the Rosslyn monolith to be counted as number one then post on instagram

Wrong thread for this, as it’s a planned purchase, but I can’t figure out how to start a new thread in tapatalk.

What are your opinions on standard vs compact cranks for road bikes?

I went compact for rides like Mountains of Misery, otherwise standard is fine for tooling around town (in my opinion).

Was it the spot just before Little Falls? I just barely made it across that intact yesterday, and when I finally came off the ice, I had to do a winner’s salute to the thumbs-up from two runners who were waiting for me to eat it.

Yep, that’s the spot. I fell there 1 month ago and almost did a three-peat this morning.

The W&OD is 90% clear, as expected. But that 10% that isn’t clear is really, really slick. Some of it was just frozen melt off some of it was residual snow that has now melted and refrozen enough times to make it traction-free. Per usual, just east of Vienna is the worst. A few sections out in Falls Church and Reston too. Had more terrifying moments on the bike this AM than any other commuter over past couple weeks. (Had I commuted yesterday, I’m sure that would have been more terrifying.) At least I stayed upright, though thee were a couple fast-unclipping reactions required to accomplish that.

Had the same experience, the icy ruts were terrifying. Even with studs I almost ate it again at the same spot in Falls Church, luckily I had been riding unclipped and just barely caught myself by putting my foot down. I did the tripod slide for several yards (1 foot / two wheels).

I was thinking about riding this afternoon if the trail isn’t icy. Anybody been out today and can share what they experienced?

I rode the stretch between Park St in Vienna and Virginia lane around 8:00 am this morning. It was about 3-4″ of heavy snow, ruts from footprints. Really tough to bike through, a lot may have melted by now but it’ll refreeze tonight.

Does anyone know of a snow-clear route from Crystal City to DC?
I know the Boundary Channel route but is the path beside Washington Blvd clear all the way over Memorial Bridge? Or is there another route?
    Asking for a friend, thanks.
