Sadly it looks like a 12:07 or 3:07 start time :(.

I’m going, but annoyed that my extra tickets may be a pain to sell. The Saturday game is going to be tough for me too. Taking an older relative to MD v OSU football at noon then dropping her off and back down to DC for Nats at 5:30. I swear MLB sometimes hates Washington. Especially with the nonsense that the Nats couldn’t pay for Metro to stay open late because it may set a bad precedent for other MLB teams, ergo the AU sponsorship.

Those of the Jewish faith were praying for an early start time. I guess it paid off! We would have preferred the later game on Saturday, though.

Thanks everyone! I feel more confident about finding the path now. I think I will probably go the more roundabout way since my dad is in town, and that seems more scenic.

Sorry I just saw this thread now. We had the opportunity to try the jerseys on yesterday. I thought I would be a medium based on the size chart, and sure enough I was. Go with what you measure!

Note that there are men’s sizes too, for the guys that want to support our movement!

So, what’s the best detour for the 15th Street CycleTrack when the White House grounds are closed, like this morning?

Going southbound, it seems like just turning left on H, then right on 15th would do the trick, but not sure for northbound?

I’m thinking sidewalk to H St, turn left, sidewalk to Vermont, and pick up the track again just outside of Lafayette Park? Carefully yielding the right of way to pedestrians, of course (and acknowledging that this is in the downtown business district where riding on the sidewalk is not permitted).

Legally, I think you’d have to cross 15th just north of the Treasury, then ride on the street north two blocks to I, turn left, then pick up the cycle track again at Vermont. But that’s a lot of traffic, and a tricky left turn.

The weather was perfect. Fellow cyclists were courteous. Drivers were courteous. Pedestrians were courteous.

    I did not get shoaled.

Not a single taxi made a U-Turn across Penn.

A truck turning left across Penn from an alley cautiously waited until cycling traffic was clear in both directions.

Only one driver honked, at another driver, and it wasn’t even near 14th St where surely everyone was having a bad commute due to the sinkhole.

    Maybe it’s the full moon?

I was surprised that a few people from Nebraska won, while not a single person from DC won. I thought, “Surely DC must have more riders than Nebraska. INJUSTICE!” But when I checked, Nebraska has over 2100 riders–more than Colorado with bike-friendly Denver–and is 2nd on the state leaderboards. Who knew Nebraska had a big cycling community?

Are those foam? They look like they’d be quite fun to ride through. Like on a CaBi during an early lunch.

No, the boxes were plywood, and still there at close to 9 am. I called 9-1-1 because, hello, crates in the middle of Pennsylvania Avenue. If that’s not a suspicious package, I don’t know what is.

I was surprised that the emergency dispatchers seemed unaware of them, more than an hour after they first appeared on Twitter.

My wife bought a Breezer from Daily Rider recently and loves it.

How’s the weight? I have decided to buy a city commuting bike (which to me means step-through, fenders, rear rack, internal hub gear, upright seating position), but one of the current problems I have is getting my bike in and out of my walk-up apartment with a narrow, winding stairwell.

I have taken to leaving my hybrid Trek 7200 locked to a sign outside of the apartment, as this is the only way I will consistently ride it, but would be reluctant to do that with a nicer bike.

I realize trying to get a lightweight “city” bike is going to be a challenge.

I guess that’s why Wisconsin is always the state leader. I really love the challenge. It definitely motivates me to ride more often than I would otherwise.

Lemme guess, at Penn and 12th? Every day I see some mouthbreather jump that light despite it usually being (typically homicidal) metrobusses making that left off Penn. It’s a really short protected light cycle too, so their unwillingness to put up with that crap is doubly understandable. For whatever reason, cyclists seem not to be so brazen about it at Penn and 7th.

    Close, Penn & 11th!

Much better this morning…as an added bonus, the cabbie making a U-Turn across Penn saw me before hitting me, so that was good. Can’t wait for the rubber curbs.

Good news! Looks like this is getting fixed. I rode on the cycle track today and the crumbling concrete has been completely removed down to the street bed.

To me, AAA throwing much support toward cycling is similar to AARP supporting the reduction of the drinking age. It’s not an issue that really benefits its members.

I suspect many, if not all, AAA members are also cyclists, transit users, and pedestrians, who would benefit from policies that AAA lobbies against.

Does anyone here have experience with Better World?

I’ve been a member for years. I’ve used them twice for towing services, and both times seemed comparable to my experiences with AAA. I miss the travel discounts, but can’t in good conscience support a business that actively lobbies against my interests (in addition to being anti-cycling, AAA also lobbies against public transit, safety cameras–yes I support DC’s speed/stop light cameras!–and I think they’ve even opposed things like fuel efficiency standards for vehicle fleets).

Furthermore, they actively PROMOTE things I am interested in promoting. http://www.betterworldclub.com/about-us/green-business-practices/

It’s too bad AAA has a monopoly on travel discounts.

All kinds of stupid out there this morning:

    1. Traveling westbound on the Pennsylvania Avenue cycle track, observed a cyclist ahead of me stopping for a red light, and then going through it when the cross-traffic light turned red, much to the annoyance of all of the cars in the opposite direction who had to wait for him while they had a green left-turn arrow.

    2. Another cyclist and I were stopped at the end of the Pennsylvania Ave track, waiting for the signal to turn north on 15th St. The right-turn arrow and cycle signal turned green, while the main signal stayed red. The other cyclist and I started to go when we noticed the GIANT BUS IN THE LANE NEXT TO US WAS STARTING TO TURN LEFT. We shouted, and the driver graciously waived us through the intersection before continuing to turn left on red.

    3. A car was making a right turn from southbound 15th street onto westbound K street (across the cycle track). When the light turned green, she turned into the cycle track, completely blocking it, while waiting for the heavy pedestrian traffic to clear.

I am learning to take these things in stride, although I did continue yelling at the bus for about half a block up 15th Street.
