Anyone want to guess at what trail conditions will be like on Monday morning? The winner gets… a free ELITE vote. Very valuable.

Arlington will be dry, everything else will be a continuous sheet of ice.

This would also need to have a route associated, because so many of us frequent different roads and MUPs, and because they are treated and cleared quite differently depending on jurisdiction. I like this idea, though.

Edit: It might also need a rating. I rode some of the W&OD on slicks today, thought it was a bad idea, and bailed out; I know Hozn did the same thing, but seemed to think it was fine (he’s made of much stouter stuff than I am).

Well, it would be a poll, so 25 people rode studs, 5 people rode knobbies, and 1 person rode slicks. Then you can clarify and expand in the forum proper.

Can we sticky a poll at the top of this thread that resets every day at midnight. Something along the lines of:

    Today’s Tires
    ( ) Slicks
    ( ) Knobbies
    ( ) Studs

Then people can dive into the forum for the details if they want. I don’t know how to implement this, but it might add something to the forum.

The forecast on WTOP for tonight is for mixed precipitation, followed by complete breakdown in the social order and a slight risk of cannibalism.

    So, studs?

If it was you right in front of me and he was coming toward us, he was dramatically yelling about your light. And then my light, which was pointed away from him.

Yep. So that was you behind me. Odd, I’ve got my light pointed at the ground about 5 feet in front of me.

He was. He was emphatic about something.

Thanks for the tips, everyone. Picked up a set of Schwalbe Winter tires, and they seem to do the trick. But, damn are they heavy.

Damn, I thought he would be on this forum, because it seemed really important.

Thanks for the tips. One more question then. Do you have a 2nd set of wheels, an ice bike, or do you just swap tires all the time?

Obviously, the best solution is to have a different bike for every possible contingency, one bike when it’s 70 and sunny, another when it’s 75 and overcast.

I saw that yesterday, and I was so happy. Being taken seriously as a commuting modality is huge.

Fantastic day for a fast ride. I got 6 in, but it was harder than last year, as they chopped 30 minutes off. That being said, brilliant day for a ride.

I didn’t see many people out there, so I thought I would file a trail report. Hopped on at East Falls Church, and it was damp. Got to Brandymore castle, and it was wet. Cutoff to the Custis was moist. Lee Highway overpass was soaked. The Two Sisters were damp. And the descent into Rosslyn was water-logged.
