Participant13/1/24 – #goldenspike trifecta: rode to Antwerp-Centraal, train to Vilvoorde, ride home from Vilvoorde. Antwerp-Centraal is one of the most beautiful stations in Europe. A classic Art Nouveau design from the early 1900s.

Participant7/1/24 – Herne, BE – local train station

Participant6/1/24 – Liège-Guillemins Station. Often cited as the most beautiful modern station in Belgium. I rode to it in order to board a “fast” train to go to Leuven to get a transfer to Nossegem. I have photos of the station in Liège, it’s sign on the platform, and also Nossegem (2 signs are visible due to the angle!). I rode home from Nossegem, 3km. 2 rides covering the stations today.

Participant3/1/24 – Bourget (Brussels) rail tram and bus station (in front of the NATO HQ, visible on the right side with the flagpole array)

Participant4/1/24 – Kontich-Lint (Antwerp, BE) Station on the Mechelen-Antwerp mainline. Passing by. Failed to pose the bike in accrodance with the rules (cranks must be level) 😂

ParticipantKris- do I understand correctly for counting: ONLY 1 flag/day and if the location has more than 1 flag, only up to 3 may be counted on successive days?

I’m in, although I have no idea what I have to do other than look for new routes.
Go ride in new places, Steve!

Please add me to the list. Although, like many of the other participants, I’ve been doing wandrer for a while, so it’ll be very hard for me to get new miles, at least in the DMV.
Hey, I’ve got you on the list…but need your Strava username and/or Strava ID number. I feel you, I’m in the same boat for the most easily accessed parts of Belgium from my doorstep. We just have to more moar!

Makes total sense – and what I figured would be the case because that’s easiest (in that it already exists), but it does put those with a longer history on the site at a disadvantage. Oh well – such is life!
(Just gives me all the more reason to work on adding to my DC map – there’s still 30% that I could realistically ride on that I haven’t ridden yet!)
I feel your pain. Not bragging at all…look at my map. I live immediately to the east of Brussels, a few km south of the Airport (huge empty space in the map, duh). Getting new to me miles is hard for me. COVID gave me lots of free time to ride and ride and ride, and I decided to just go ride everywhere that was within a day’s ride.

ParticipantNot sure if you can see my map…I’m hosed in this regard unless I want to ride a train or ride for a long, long way. Ultimately the goal is to encourage people to ride more in more places. See my reply to LhasaCM, I’m going to discuss with the guy who runs the site…

Count me in – Chris M (12125159 because it’s out there so why make it harder for you to find?)
To confirm: is this the total number of “new to you miles” in this period, or the number of unique miles in this period even if you’ve ridden it before? For example: riding 2 miles on the MBT yesterday (that I’ve ridden a zillion times) would be “unique” if just looking at this period, but is not “new” to me so doesn’t show as “new” on Wandrer this year. Do those count?
For now, based on how the mileage accrues in Wandrer (as you’ve noted), it’s “new to you” miles from 1 Jan to 20 Mar. I’ll ask Craig if he can do unique miles for the period, as you describe. More to follow.

Participant#goldenspike – 2/1/24 – Leuven (Belgium). Fail, I captured the station, and the sign is off in the distance. I’ll have to go back.
On Jan 6, I passed through Leuven again but only to transfer. Now I have a photo with a sign (Belgian station signing is odd, sometimes)

ParticipantProbably unfair, since I play FS from Europe (for now)…but, I often plan P2P rides that involve a train to get to the start, or to get from the end. But, I’ll offer up some cool Belgian (and maybe Dutch, German or French) train stations.
