Not the coldest AM ever, but cold enough for me to*wear leggings and give my Planet Bike Comet shoe covers a break-in ride. They were a little tough to get fastened at the back of my size 46 Shimano MTB style shoes, but I did get them on. I hope they loosen up and stretch a little. That said, they kept my feet super toasty. Made a big difference. I’ll be curious to try them if and when we get some colder mornings – a la the Polar Vortex days of last winter.

Odd to think that 2014 is already ending…

I am firmly in favor of splitting infinitives; I was applauding cyclingfool’s trolling. We had another thread go off the rails into a grammar discussion earlier this month.

Not so much trolling as making a grammar PSA since it was so recently a topic on the forum. Though I do usually bury my grammar Nazi tendencies and bit my tongue on to avoid being obnoxious. But I will gladly pile on when others start talking about common errors. :D

Guy Continental = my “porn name” (in 1992 kid parlance, at least in Arizona, your porn name was your middle name + the street you grew up on)

Kalman Sunset is OK, though my middle name is admittedly a little different. (It was my Hungarian great grandfather’s name.)

But the alternate porn name game of first pet’s name plus street you grew up on yields a pretty rockin’ porn name for me: Thunder Sunset. :D

I wanted something new and different for a login a few years ago when I signed up for this and a few other sites. As I am Coocoo for Cocoa Puffs, er, crazy for cycling, it was not a stretch to come up with cyclingfool. Sadly, it’s already taken on about half the sites I go to sign up for now using this screen name, so I wasn’t original enough.

At first, I used to think your username meant you worked/lived at the Mark Center with the aristocratic title added for fun!

This is still the image this conjures up in my head, even though I know from your forum posts that you work at DoT in DC and just recently moved to Alexandria.

The Washington Monument was similarly shrouded last night. I almost stopped to take a picture. The AF Memorial looks even cooler in that fog, though.

I missed out on commuting yesterday b/c I had the day off. While I relished being at home and spending time with family, I did look at the weather conditions out the window longingly by late afternoon. That 40ish and drizzly/misty is one of my favorite riding conditions. Alas.

On the other hand, Christmas exchange w/ family yesterday netted me a long desired repair stand for my bike, some winter shoe covers, and a Fenderbot back light so I can further dork out my bike and make it look like a Christmas tree. :D

Dropping commas is a time-honored tradition. Or a nod to the fact that the use of a comma will be inconsistent and many will get confused by it. One prominent example in DC is the name of St. Elizabeths.

I find the confusion over “its” and “it’s” distracting.

    , = comma

    ‘=apostrophe ;)

While we’re still derailed on this thread, another major common mistake, and perhaps one of the the greatest annoyances to me is lose vs. loose. Either learn the difference or clean the syrup out of the O key on your keyboard.:p

I set a not-so-lofty goal of 3,500 miles for the year. As of now, I’m at 3,547.6 on Strava, and I’ve got more to upload and a few commutes next week. IOW, goal reached. :D

My other goal was to get out on the on the C&O again and do at least an overnight bike camping trip . I failed in that endeavor, but it’s on the radar screen for 2015, that and possibly the complete GAP-C&O route from PGH to DC!

    I’m a bit over 8k and 570 hours for 2014. I didn’t have a goal this year so I can’t say if I met it.

I’m certain you posted somewhere your goal was 7,500 miles and 525 hours. Congratulations on reaching your goals! ;) lol
