Fred seems to be the most poorly defined term I encounter in cycling circles, with two opposite definitions. I regularly encounter it as meaning both AND types.

    Being an EEEE shoe width

I feel your pain. I’m always annoyed that bike shoe manufacturers don’t make more of an attempt to offer wide sizes. Alas. I hadn’t considered the width/comfort issue as potential plus for sandals. One more pro in the pro column for sandal purchase, though that will undoubtedly be waiting until spring at this point at the earliest…

I would have loved to try the Cabi program in Arlington but both stations near me are not responding to the touch screen. I called customer service and the answer was “we’ll log it but we can’t tell you when we’ll fix it”
Am I the only one having these problems? How is the county monitoring the stations and this program?

Quite frankly after three attempts on two different days, I am having a hard time getting on-board with this program.

Sorry you’re having problems. I ride my own bike 99.99% of the time, but have used CaBi on occasion and likely to get an annual membership soon now that there’s a station next to my apartment in Alexandria. That said, my experience has always been good, and I know (at least secondhand) that CaBi customer service is usually quite responsive when things are amiss. Day to day operations of CaBi are handled by Alta Bicycle Share, which ultimately answers to the participating jurisdictions. Hopefully they’ll get things resolved ASAP so you can get out there and ride!

That’s different, that’s a bike. It’s the same principle as the two stomachs everyone has – one for dinner that gets filled quickly, and one for dessert that is perpetually empty.

My dinner stomach must be defective. It seems to act more like my dessert stomach. ;)

On the topic of double yellow lines, I recently read this. It’s long, but well thought out and well written.

FYI–I think the tapatalk “like” function should be working now. Let us know if it isn’t.

Exciting! I’ll have to check. Not having “like” was one of the biggest things keeping me from using Tapatalk more often.

The other is getting practically no cell mobile service at my office (4 ft thick stone walls don’t play nice with cell signals on an already inferior network, go figure), but I can’t blame the forum for that. ;)

Another contributor to road rage and road frustration is the physical environment of the driver. Car companies like to talk about “the freedom of the open road” in their ads. But the reality is that the driver is confined to a very small space, inside an automobile. Where else would a modern person voluntarily submit to confinement in a 2′ x 3′ x 4′ box on a daily basis? It’s basically a mobile prison, in some sense. You are moving, but you are still stuck inside that metal box. That has to have psychological effects, which are revealed through the widespread display of rage, frustration and even violence while behind the wheel of an automobile. This doesn’t justify road rage, but it helps explain why it occurs so frequently.

While I tend to agree with you, I think an answer to the question in bold above is “La-Z-Boy” or couch cushion.

Three blocks from my office, after a very nice ride in, catostropic crank failure!

Ouch. Bummer. At least you were near the office when it happened. And I’m glad you weren’t hurt as a result.

I left home at 8:30. The rain had already passed and the sun was starting to try to peek through. It was a glorious ride in — dodging puddles, not dodging puddles (FENDERS!), enjoying the retreating fog and the fresh air. In many ways, it reminded me of finally getting back out to ride my bike as a kid after being stuck inside waiting for the rain to stop.

Two words, Burley Travoy. If I could fully justify it, I would buy one.

I think Topeak makes a similar product. Not sure if it’s any cheaper, but Topeak quality is good, too.
