Currently recovering from a ride in a Barnes & Noble, with a caffeinated beverage, food, books, and free WiFi.

    I’ll be there!

An early heads up on one other thing too – those who would like to have an “official” BAFS nametag should try to let me know as soon as possible ahead of time if they plan to come to the event. ;-)

I don’t know if you’re up for something tomorrow as well. If so, I could manage any of those places (or somewhere like Chadwick’s, which is in DC but right next to the Key Bridge), but I’ll certainly understand if you’re not up to two nights in a row of socializing.

And back on the original topic, do we yet have a time for the final BAFS Happy Hour?

In what is probably heresy for this forum, I don’t actually like beer. But I’d love to get together for a drink sometime, even if it’s only a Diet Coke. Just shoot me a PM, and we’ll work something out.

I’d be interested. Today wouldn’t be possible (play rehearsal), but I could do any of the suggested locations tomorrow.

Speaking of which, would anyone like to get together for a quick post-BAFS celebration after work tonight or tomorrow?

My thoughts are perhaps Good Stuff Eatery in Crystal City, Heavy Seas Alehouse in Rosslyn, or Cap City in Shirlington (Thursday night special pricing), but am open to other ideas as well.

Thanks for fixing this, so I could capture the coveted pointless prize for most time after sunset. Oh, wait, there is no prize for that? Well, that just makes it even more pointless, and thus presumably more ELITE. ;)

    Howdy folks –

You may have noticed some fluctuation in the scoreboard today. I had a couple of bugs (it’s what I get for not testing) that affected some people:
    (1) The 5-day grace period for uploads was not implemented, so the sync scripts just bailed out as soon as it was after 12:01AM today. (I fixed that bug around 5:45 this AM, and that probably only affected a few of you that were out at Hains pt and not back till after midnight. i.e. “crazies”)
    (2) The logic to exclude rides where the end_date was > 12:01AM (today) was backwards; it returned “No [they’re not excluded]” instead of “Yes”. A stupid bug; it’s what I get for doing this last night :)

The good news is that since Strava is the authoritative datasource we never run the risk of actually losing any data, just having scoreboards be slightly inaccurate. Anyway, I don’t think there’s any confusion about the overall winners, but I am resyncing the full content now (which normally happens nightly). This process is is kinda slow and so you may see numbers fluctuating (growing) on the site for the next 30-60 minutes.

    Sorry for any confusion!

No further loss after this post. But I won’t sneeze at a 4.8% drop over the course of BAFS.

Something about this challenge is clearly having good effects. I’m down from 210 to 200 as of this morning. By comparison, I’d lost only 7 lbs. in the whole preceding year!

Alas, there is no “short route” for either of the rides I have scheduled for today. I particularly noticed that after getting back from Hains Point around midnight, and having to get up again for an early morning breakfast ride. The only thing I get out of the contest being over is that I no longer need to upload to Strava. (I already upload to Garmin, so the only reason I started uploading to Strava was for the purpose of BAFS.)

And for a bonus, I achieved the goal I announced on arrival, to make it to the top of the “After Sunset” chart. Of course, most of that was the back and forth from Bethesda, since I managed only one lap around Hains Point before I had to head home, but it was satisfying nonethless.

I already bought the Bar Mitts and clothes so warm I never got remotely cold even on those <10° days. But the snow and ice were still a problem. Perhaps if I bought studded tires, too, we'd start getting better winters?

Thanks to jrenault for organizing this! I didn’t stay long, since I had to bike back to Bethesda afterward, but I got in my very first Hains Point laps, and went out on a high note. Or, as I put it to my wife when I got home, “Meeting a bunch of guys I don’t know in a deserted park after dark went better than one might expect.”

Ack! I could have gone either of the two previously scheduled times, but I have a rehearsal for Actor’s Nightmare (playing Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30, April 4 -19, 2014) that night! And given that I’m already missing the final dress rehearsal to be at the BAFS Happy Hour, I really can’t miss another rehearsal in the same week.

Has anyone been on the Georgetown Branch Trail? Since it never gets plowed, and isn’t paved, it tends to be the last thing to clear. I’m trying to figure out whether it will be passable for a Thursday breakfast run.
