Believe me, I sympathize! I will happily take the lane when there is more than one lane in each direction. But when there is only one (or when all but one is under construction), I worry that doing so will annoy the drivers enough to make taking the lane more rather than less dangerous.

Of course, the one time I was hit by a car (a police car, at that!) on Wisconsin Avenue, I had taken the right lane (in a spot with no one parked there), and the police officer who was turning right from the center lane never even saw me. Sigh!

I’ve been taking to Wisconsin more lately just to avoid all the joggers on the RCP. Each time I debate whether I will ride in the dooring zone to let people get around me on the climbs or take the lane. Invariably I choose the zone and each time I’m literally brushed by a Metro bus or a big truck. Need to remind myself to say screw those drivers and take the lane.

Tell me about it! Before I found this forum, I always thought of the twice a week bicycling, for a total of 30 miles a week, as a lot. Since then, I’ve had weeks when I rode over 100 miles–only to find that one of my teammates had exceeded that in a single day’s cycling. About the only area in which I have any hope of being competitive is in the workplace statistics–and then only because my single-person workplace is guaranteed to have 100% participation.

However, all those insane cyclists on our team are so far keeping it at #1 nationally. And of course, the way the prize structure works, you can get prizes even if you aren’t one of the top riders.

Ok, joined the team. Of course I click the FABB local and recognize some of the names knowing full well that there is 0 chance I will catch any of them. :)

Believe me, I share your frustration with this! I’ve now had to reauthorize mine several times. And it seems to be so variable from one person to another, that I don’t even know how we will know when it is really fixed. Do be sure to report the problem on the support forum, as deleting miles is not a problem previously reported, and they need to know about it.

As to your specific question, my understanding is that it is possible to delete manually entered miles. If you click on the day on your calendar, an option for “Clear miles” should come up. I cannot test this myself, as I don’t enter miles manually, but people on the support forum are saying it works.

Alternatively, you can enter a ride for the day with a negative number of miles, to balance out the “extra” ride. Just use the – sign before the number of miles.

MMR is still not working for me…In fact, it appears to have deleted a number of rides I had in there :(. I’m about to give up and start manually logging my miles.

Question–if I start manually logging my miles and then MMR suddenly starts working, can I remove my manually logged miles? I don’t want to accidentally double-count trips.

MapMyRide should now be syncing for everyone. If it is not, go to “My Account,” and try to reauthorize it. For some reason, it seems to have unauthorized itself for some people, and reauthorizing is fixing the problem.

    The CCT Coalition says:

CCT remains closed at G’town, but towpath reported only a little muddy and doable for road bikes.

And reports are that the towpath is still pretty muddy. My detour ended up being to bike straight uphill for two miles, taking Wisconsin Avenue from K Street up to the Cathedral.

Looks like the tow path is your detour.

My morning commute involved going straight down and then straight up Wisconsin Avenue between K Street and the Cathedral, to avoid the quite literal shitstorm on the CCT. Sigh!

One of the things that bugs me is that phone manufacturers don’t provide a way to allow use of things like GPS while disabling the phone. It’s possible to selectively disable GPS or data connections without disabling the phone, but not vice versa. Of course, the cell phone companies like it this way, because they make their money off the phone service.

actually I think there are some exploring ways to selectively disable apps, so you could still use GPS.

Yes, but the authorities frown on sticking one’s soon-to-be teenage daughter in the trunk, no matter how much of a pain she may be on road trips!

Hmm, I’m not seeing it at the CCTrail link.

I’m really hoping this gets cleared up soon. I’ve got to bike from Bethesda to Georgetown and back tomorrow, and don’t relish the “straight up Wisconsin Avenue” option.

Edit: The good news (such as it is) is that the closure is only from Fletcher’s Cove to the Georgetown end of the trail. Thus, it should be possible to take the CCT as far as Fletcher’s Cove, then switch to the Canal Towpath for the rest of the way.

MapMyRide is working some of the time for some people right now. My ride this morning, for example, got picked up almost immediately on NBC. But I’ve had other rides not sync for as long as 3 days. And some people haven’t had it sync at all.

Believe me, I share your frustration with the site! I’m administrator for a team, a league, a workplace, and a school. I’m also a rider myself, and spent some time trying to make sure that Marylanders weren’t left out of all the local challenges. I feel like I’ve spent more time on the NBC support forum than I have actually cycling!

Just a heads up but syncing from mapmyride is not working right now. They (NBC robots) are working on it – so don’t get uber frustrated and set yourself on fire or anything. Not that I wouldn’t empathize because NBC is THE. WORST. SITE. EVER.

The button to get the traffic light to change on the Georgetown Branch Trail eastbound at Jones Mill Road has been broken for several weeks now. Anyone know the proper authorities to report this to?

Yeah, it would have been nice to have everyone in one local challenge, but it looks like they had several organizations wanting to sponsor, and decided to divide them up.

I did set up a Washington, DC Area league to try to have something that everyone in the area could be a part of. It includes the Washington Area All-Stars and the WABA Women & Bicycles teams right now, and I’ve made it public to enable any other local teams to join.

It amuses me that the Strava playback is actually sensitive enough to show that I stopped at each of the stop lights along my route.

Just got this message from Alison:

If you reside in Montgomery or Prince George’s County you are now part of WABA’s Local Challenge. BikeMD had those two counties last year and I just wanted to be fair in giving them another shot with them this year. Thanks for your patience and persistence.

Rod, you can put your WABA sticker back on! ;)
