They’re really fricking annoying on the trail though. Every taillight I’ve ever seen has a constant mode as well as a blinkie/strobe mode; I don’t think its all that difficult to just switch it to constant if you’re going to be riding a popular trail like the Custis/W&OD/whatever.
the Vis360 system I have does not have a constant mode for the tail light (helmet mounted). It’s blinky in the back only.

I spotted OneEigth coming over the 14th Street Bridge at approximately 7:30am on my way back from HP intervals. He looked particularly distinguished in his top hat shaped helmet and monocle. He appeared to be riding one handed with a teacup in the other, and what I found most fascinating was that he had apparently trained a choir of kittens to mew in unison in place of ringing a bell to call his passes.
Did the little kittens have top hats too?

ParticipantNot so easy to walk around the construction anymore. It’s “barricaded” off, but that probably won’t last long. Still, it’s going to be more precarious to transition from the pavement to the construction.

The HR zone issue on Strava is pretty well reported- everyone’s zones are different and there are a bunch of varying methodologies for establishing your own zone but Strava tried to use a one-size-fits-all approach. Which doesn’t work. On their “suggested features” page iot’s marked as “planned” (LINK). Then again, it’s been marked as such for months…
I guess I need to actually go and read the link and look in to this some. My thoughts were along the lines of “it’s probably close enough for me since I’m not ELITE”. I’ll check it out and see if I can find what my correct zones are. I’m not really interested in serious training, I just want to make sure I’m staying in the proper zones. I’ve burned myself out a few times while commuting, and need to make sure I don’t push myself too early, too hard (that’s what she said) so I can’t make the entire ride home. Just slow down, you say? It’s not that easy! I have a type A pathonality.
Saw this comment on the link for the Strava HR issue. LOL

ParticipantIt always makes me think “organized tour/ride” when I hear those terms. Not sure about anyone else. If you’re just talking about a 20 mile leisure ride on the weekend, would you tell everyone you just rode 20 miles, or say you rode a 1/5 statute century?

ParticipantI just thought it was really cool that I had stopped to take a pic of the sunrise and the fog on the trail ahead, only to catch this commuter coming out of the fog like something in a movie. I should’ve snapped one more close up, but was already about to pee my pants. The Fog scared me when I was a kid.

I’m not entirely sure they’re actually paint. They’re very thick, and seem to be stuck on rather than painted on, but I don’t really know for sure. They do, however, seem slick. I try to avoid them, I’m kind of neurotic like that when it comes to painted asphalt.
Here’s a close up of the swimmers on the path, they almost look ironed on.

ParticipantHere are some interesting graphs on tire resistances.

For me, needing to lose about 30 pounds, I won’t bother spending too much time or money on trying to get my bike more ELITE. If I get down to my ultimate body weight, then I’ll worry about all that

Participant2 weeks ago, I was pretty sure I had torn my meniscus. All the symptoms I was experiencing matched. Unfortunately, I had switched jobs and my benefits don’t kick in right away (they start Saturday, the 1st, yay!). So, I don’t have an official diagnosis, but have definitely had pain in the knee. I have been following all the things that have been recommended, R.I.C.E. (rest, ice, compression, elevation) specifically. I’ve also had other injuries in the past; herniated discs, arthritis in the spine. I can 100% guarantee you that the closer you listen to your doctors and the physical therapists, the faster and more fully you’ll recover.

ParticipantYou: An incredibly sexy WABA XL jersey that arrived in the mail today.
Me: Usually fit in any other XL without issue. I haven’t gained 20 pounds in the last day, I’m pretty sure.
You: An incredibly sexy WABA XXL jersey missed connection, because you don’t exist.
