Do you mean the clamp size or width? Drop bars? Quill stem or threadless?
Drop bars. I’m looking for clamp size. I believe quill stem, but I had to look up the term, so it’s not something I remember off hand.

ugh, I honestly would probably avoid both of those routes if it were me, but the alternatives involve a long cue sheet.

I’ll paste a longer route that takes you up closer to there by some back ways too if you want. That’d be great! I’m looking to make decent time. but also to arrive alive

I thought guns were illegal in DC?
I guess they were until Saturday when a judge fixed that little infringement of rights 😎
Relax. Guns have been ‘illegal’ and available for purchase in DC since their invention and importation a few hundred years ago. Half the illegal gun activity doesn’t even make the papers, since it’s kind of a ‘given’ in a few (neighbor-)hoods.

Although some call me crazy, when I worked in DC I took the Whitehurst off the Key Bridge (only inbound; do not ride the Whitehurst outbound). It has the advantage of no intersections. It has the disadvantage of feeling like an expressway. However, sight lines are good, there’s a 4′ shoulder (with debris to make it more exciting), and you get a downhill running start.
When you reach the light at the pedestrian crossing just before Washington Circle, go through and wait right in front of the yellow crash barriers between the tunnel traffic and the circle traffic–essentially where the “W” is in the picture below.
Then when the light turns red for the cars on K St., you get a private tunnel to ride through. Right down the middle if you want. Then you’re at 21st & K and almost there.
Here’s a map:

Welcome and good luck. Hope to see you at an FCC or other event before long.
****So, that’s what I do wrong: I don’t wait for the cars at the tunnel. I take the tunnel and hoist the 2 wheeled flag. Off hours especially, WHF isn’t bad at all. Georgetown isn’t either at that hour (pre-7:30am-ish), but has the disadvantage of some blind corners at red lights. I also take the bridge on the Key bridge a lot though, so I’m pretty sure I’m certifiable.

Why hasn’t this fact led to a predominance of DC-area cyclists winning the year’s supply of toilet paper prizes? I don’t know. Sounds like a big conspiracy to me…
In fact, I believe last year most of the toilet paper winners were from the DC area.

Did you call? I am under the impression (though may be totally wrong), that if you forget your fob, and you call customer service, they can hook you up with a number, like what the daily memberships get. I’d love to know if I’m wrong.
I did call. And they told me no

ParticipantI left my bike home this morning, and so I got off the train, and got on bike share. Well I got to the bike share station, and set everything up, and then realized that I’d left my fob on the keys in my other backpack. So I’m rather jealous of all the two wheeled commuters out there this morning. On the flip side, I did get in double my usual mileage yesterday, but, but, it’s so not fair! I hope you all enjoyed your rides extra today.

So glad I rode today! The rain wasn’t half as bad as I was expecting, and it was so cool to see all the other brave souls at the Rockville Town Square pit stop!
agreed! Call me a pessimist, but I was expecting torrentials.

I wouldn’t do that, the towel would act as a sail in a tornado and then you’d be in trouble.
Um, wouldn’t you get in faster with a sail? I wonder how many knots you could do…

Sorry, I changed plans twice (am now riding in from DC), and when a HH starts at 4pm, a 4:15 departure actually is a bit late, really.
Jump ship! Is there anyone else in the 445 group that knows the way? (sorry, haven’t been following this thread too much.)
I’ll be in the 4:47ish group, and can think of about 6 different ways to get there. I suggest either LBJ Grove or Memorial Bridge to Army-Navy.

An early heads up on one other thing too – those who would like to have an “official” BAFS nametag should try to let me know as soon as possible ahead of time if they plan to come to the event.

I just realized this is tonight AND work isn’t putting the pressure on today.

What’s the best way to get across DC east-west at the latitude of the biggest churches? That is, from the National Shrine at Catholic U in NE to the National Cathedral in NW?
Depends what you’re looking for. You could go almost straight across, as G-maps shows, or you could take RI down in front of St Matthew Cathedral, and then CT, Dupont, to Mass for more visibility.

ParticipantI second the warning of snow hiding ice between Great and Little Falls (about 7:35 this AM). I hit a few other slick snow patches (“slick” to my slick roadster 700×23’s) until I bailed from the trails right before Glebe. And that snow brawl impression on the ground at the 90′ turn east of EFC on the W&OD? My contribution to modern trail art. You’re welcome all.

Why not add a twist to the popular coffee club culture we have going on in DC!?! Inspired by chasing mailboxes coffeeneuring rules addition of the coffee shop without walls this past year and by the many great pictures coming out of other parts of the country from similar outings I’m going to try and start doing this weekly…
I’m not going to commit to a single day but will aim to avoid the Friday and Wednesday club conflicts. Weather, projected sunrise conditions and location may dictate a floating day. I’ll use this thread to put out the details whenever I’m going to do trail side coffee but anyone else in the area doing the same should feel welcome to put it out here!
So after the ‘soft opening’ inaugural morning last week I’ll propose this coming Thursday, same location. The sunrise is likely to be anti climactic and it won’t be particularly warm, so it’s definitely a ‘love of the game’ situation!

0630, (sunrise is 0643)
LBJ Memorial Grove (off the MV Trail) http://www.nps.gov/lyba/index.htm
-you have to go through the Columbia Island Marina parking lot (it’s worth it!)Rain location – under the northern span of the 14th st bridge on the MV trail
Depending on response I may try and bring more coffee to brew multiple pots but by default I’ll usually only bring enough for two large pour over cups, if you bring your own brewer like a French press with grounds and water I’ll have enough fuel to heat up your water!
Maybe this is a silly question, but which part of the park is the “grove”? Sometimes I cut through there from CC/Pent/VA, but I’ve never stopped to smell the roses. or the coffees. Count me a definite solid maybe.
