I did a slip and fall just into Georgetown off the Key Bridge earlier this morning. FS Key Park Brick is super slick. I made it about 10 feet before going down hard, but I’m surprised I made it that far. That was around 6:50. Avoid riding on the brick!

The issue is actually that you’re watching it too carefully.

If only! Really, I wasn’t watching at all where I was going.

Omg, I was attacked a couple weeks ago by a pylon too!! It was early – 6 am-ish, and there was a couple being weird – I don’t remember what, they just got my attention – on the left sidewalk. I rode straight into a pylon. Yes, I can attest that the pylons will move if you’re not watching them carefully. There’s no way I would have hit it if it hadn’t moved.

Last night I was already to ride back after work. First sign something was wrong I realized I’d forgotten to charge my headlight. Ok, no big deal. I could be extra alert, maybe take less traveled roads (Yeah right. I’m a creature of habit.) I got down to the garage, helmeted up, unlocked my bike, and realized the bike next to mine had locked onto mine, besides being locked onto the railing. The *)(#%&)@*#%&^@#)& IDIOT!!!!!!! Has this ever happened to anyone?? What have you done? I’ve imagined it could happen, but had never seen it. I spoke with garage attendant, building security, and police… so far, all to no avail. Useless! Who does that??? I’ve still fuming.

When I was there around 2:30, Cap Bikeshare was manning the space.
A coworker brought up a sweet pair of bike socks, but they were all gone when I went by.

    I second(/third?/fourth?) the pump love.

This morning I tried the path down by the reflecting pool in front of Lincoln. It was pretty cool being so close to the water. However, I discovered at the end no path but stairs, due to the construction. As I surveyed the landscape, looking for another out, and slowed, my new shoes refused to disengage from the pedals… A slow, ugly bloody downslant ensued. I’m not sure why or how, but my new cleats disengage inwards, instead of outwards. and it really throws me. literally. twice now. I switched the cleats from left to right, right to left, but they still disengage inward. Ideas?

There was a Super Special heretofore Secret motorcade that plowed down 13th about that time. The black SUV backseat driver seemed to be looking around more than usual. Must’ve been the squirrels.

So, can we get FS started already? It was clearly freezing out this morning.

    You: newbie
    Me: teacher

Coming up Washington Blvd, after it flattens out eastbound after the mega-hill up from the W&OD, I took the left side of the right lane to avoid the craptastic patch job that runs the right 2/3 of the lane. As I threw an awareness glance over my left shoulder, I was startled to find a car passing within half a foot. When I caught up to him at the next major intersection, I almost shocked myself as I calmly offered that there was a new rule requiring three feet to pass. In response to his hypothetical query why a very slow vehicle wouldn’t move further right, I explained that there was a safety element: to discourage close passes and that it was my judgment call to make. He started another non-hypothetical, at which point I turned to the newly turned green, and continued on my way. Much more productive than yelling at the idiot moving truck driver a few weeks ago who turned into the intersection only looking backwards.

I don’t really care since I wasn’t planning on riding this event and am only tangentially familiar with the PPTC, but I do want to take issue with the assertion from the sheriff that those who violate traffic laws but do not have ID could be arrested and their bikes impounded. There is no legal requirement in the US to carry ID with you, even when riding a bike. A bike is not a motorized vehicle. Operation of one does not require special license like for a car. This threat from the chief pig of Clarke County is sickening. Likewise, the warning about not taking the lane is also problematic at best and could have been stated in a way that doesn’t resemble an ultimatum.

Small town LEO yahoo making his own laws. Not cool.

Zero tolerance? Enforcement for all road users? I wonder how many motorists will be ticketed for violations that day???

Sounds like my law office could pick up some work that day! Ignorant police can be good in my business… Of course I’d rather it not come to that, but I’m trying to see the sunshine.

Miles ridden in your sleep don’t count. In real life however, I discovered that it had severely under-calculated my miles too. until I added them up. Sometimes I think I ride a lot of miles. then I check back in with reality. (I am in no way suggesting you only rode 1 mile, Ebubar. I just wanted to recount my own recount woes.)

I’ve done it when in a hurry or feeling brave. I take the left 6 inches of the left lane to avoid the ramps, and, so far, have survived/avoided needing an ambulance. No, really, besides less than a handful of impatient drivers in my many traversings of that section, no incidents to speak of.

the freeways around here don’t have signage explicitly prohibiting cyclists, so I can understand how some people might think it’s okay.

I’ve seen quite a few signs prohibiting cyclists on freeways around here, although I, um, know a friend who’s been on a couple… What’s a guy to do when a bus breaks down on 66 in stopped rush hour traffic and the replacement sent has no bike rack? Or heading south from Anacostia, do people really expect cyclists to go around instead of simply down 295 to National Harbor when you’re already on the ramp? Sometimes I don’t know whether to believe my “friend” or not, but he tells such outlandish tales…

Ok, here goes: I made it just past Frederick and could do no more. One of the best parts was the C&O, with its shade. Overall, I was pretty happy with the path I took: https://www.endomondo.com/workouts/382635970/7155990
