I ride Key Blvd with regularity and no, a timed Do Not Enter sign does relatively little to deter cars from entering. Fancy that…
Yeah, that’s what I assume too. Wonder what else could be done there as a more permanent solution. I’m guessing police enforcement would only have short term improvements.

ParticipantThink a bluetooth speaker is a good idea for tonight (hopefully it will be loud enough)? What songs should I load up on the playlist?
I have this (fits in a water bottle cage):
But wish I had this (from here: klarageist.com):

ParticipantI’m a maybe for the parade with kid, cargo bike, and lights. According to the sign up page we meet at 5:30 at Arlington Career Center. Is everyone gathering in the parking lot out back? Should I be there by 5:30 or is that when it actually rolls out?

Maybe consider setting it up tubeless? (Won’t solve all flats for sure, but on lower-psi systems sealant does a good job and you can use plugs to fix most things that the sealant can’t handle.)
Hm, I really don’t have any experience with tubeless tires. They easy to set up? It wasn’t a big deal to change the tube since it was the front wheel. The rear would be a bigger pain…
But, I really think the next step here is just to get another cargo bike… Logically it goes flat tire –> need an extra bike. Maybe a long tail? π

ParticipantMy three year old always wanted me to push her and never wanted to ride on her own. Until… I showed her a few YouTube clips of kids her age on balance bikes and she immediately wanted to go try it on her own.

ParticipantYou can use a car jack to break the u-lock open. Just make sure all the pressure is on the lock and not between the lock and the frame. A coworker of mine spotted his stolen bike and got it back that way.

ParticipantIf someone (NPS or DC) were to enforce the no e-bike thing, does anyone know what the penalty/fine would be?

ParticipantWhen I went by around 9:15 the police car had been moved off the sidewalk and down into the access road (next to the MVT) and the officer was directing traffic from within the intersection near the crosswalk. So that’s good news at least.

ParticipantCompletely off topic but how did you get your speed and map on the video? That’s pretty nice.

ParticipantI followed up with Steve:
Hi Steve,
Just a quick follow up. Do ART operators receive special training regarding pedestrians and cyclists? How often are operators observed and evaluated? And are operators retrained when new laws are enacted such as the new three foot passing law that went into effect on July 1st? The bus that passed me in this video may have been within the 3 foot distance so I’d like to be sure that all ART operators are aware of the new law. Thanks!
And here was his response:
They do receive special training, though the curriculum is from 2012 and will be updated in the next few months, with our new Safety and Training Manager who starts in three weeks. Heβll review the powerpoint that we had been using.

Are you going to engage further? I’d also want to know what, if any, training ART drivers have gotten about the new laws in effect in Virginia since July 1.
I plan to send another follow up email. I know the three foot passing law went into effect on July 1, were there any others?
