ParticipantThe Giro New Road High Neck Zip up is absolutely superb. I just got mine in the mail a couple days ago and pretty much haven’t stopped wearing it since. On Friday’s commute with a light SaS wind shell, the Giro zip up was just the right temperature.
The cloth-feel is soft with just the right amount of roughness – I’m not really fond of super soft merino.I’m 5’10/5’11 and about 145lbs and the small fits me very well.
If I had one gripe its about the rear zipper – Giro has designed the New Road line so that you’re supposed to use the pieces together. To that effect, the zipper on the back of this shirt doesn’t open to a pocket, rather it gives you access to the rear pocket on the base layer jersey you’re supposed to be wearing below. I don’t think I’ll be wearing this with anything underneath very often, so it won’t be very useful.
I like this one enough that I just went ahead and ordered a second.

ParticipantFrom the living room down to the front door its 12 stairs, then 4 more down to the walkway, then 6 more down to the sidewalk. If I lived in one of the units behind ours, it would be an additional 15-25 steps just to get to the front door – so I’m glad I don’t.
After doing this for 5 years, I no longer mind it very much. It is a real pain when I want to set up the trailer and take my daughter for a ride…which means I do that less than I’d like to.
Today at work we had 1 (out of 6) elevators working, so I took the 4 flights of stairs (which are normally locked and inaccessible for people going up). I think I’d rather take those stairs than deal with waiting for the elevator and dealing with looks and snarky comments.

I passed a gaggle of NPP motorcycle cops on Ohio, which was closed… I asked “is it okay if I ride through?” and they said “yup, go ahead, thanks for asking!”
I was going to take OH Dr. but had to go confront some MVT wooden-board ‘S’ curve demons first. We’ll see what the CCT and OH Dr look like tomorrow morning.

I talked to a Park Policeman today and he sort-of implied that the level of enforcement would depend on who was behind the wheel and what exactly you’re doing. I wouldn’t suggest jumping barriers in front of a park policeman.
Seeing a Park Ranger roll by in the opposite direction on the MVT this evening… I got the same impression. The MVT was packed with riders in both directions – but it looks like enforcement is being kept to a minimum. My guess is that if its obvious that you’re using the trail to get somewhere – like commuting to work or home – they’ll leave you alone. It will probably depend on the location and the officer…as I think we’ve seen more aggressive enforcement up in RCP.
I didn’t take the CCT this afternoon, but it was busy this morning when I rolled down – I’ll report tomorrow AM too.

ParticipantJeez. Anyone wanna pick me up at work and drive me home? I just got the 100% clear from my Doc yesterday too.
Subby – heal quick and look forward to good riding once you’re back on the bike.

ParticipantLayer-related: gloves.
The Assos Factory outlet has their glove system for sale for $137. NOT CHEAP, and the % discount isn’t great either, but its worth considering. 3 pairs, from light (liner style), to med, to mitt.
Tempting, as I do need to find a good option for this winter.
Mavic’s semi-cold weather gloves are on sale at Competitive, i think. Not sure if they have a layer option

ParticipantFWIW, the gravel on River road is a very short stretch (<1m) and is hardpack - you shouldn't have trouble riding it, even on 23s.
Its the small stretch between Edwards Ferry and Elmer School Road: https://www.google.com/maps/preview#!data=!1m4!1m3!1d14834!2d-77.4791532!3d39.11028Bilsko

But strollers? I’m sorry — I have little sympathy for folks who use enormous strollers in metro during rush hours. They’re actually a pain for everyone, including the user, and there are many better alternatives.
Agreed that large items can be burdensome on other Metro users…but as someone who, for a couple years, had to occasionally wheel a stroller onto a Metro train or hoist it up onto a Metrobus – I very much sympathize with parents (and very often other caretakers!) who have to navigate the system with a stroller.
I’m curious what alternatives you have in mind. Wheelchairs and other personal mobility aids/devices are a necessity – I would say that a stroller is no different for the infant.
