ParticipantI didn’t search back through the thread, but is there a Wandrer related prize. Someone who rides the most new-to-them miles during the competition.
Search for ‘wandrer.earth strava’ to understand what it is if you don’t know.

ParticipantAlso, Admins, please move this to General Forum since I’m too rusty at posting to actually know how to create a thread in the right place. #SMH #shrug

ParticipantI’ve been on BAFS hiatus since 2016. Gonna sign up to do a thing thing in 2021.

ParticipantI’m curious about that too; across the river, adjacent to the Kennedy Center, they are doing some heavy duty tree/vegetation maintenance. They have generators and it looks like they are using compressed air to clean or the root system – hard to tell, but its a pretty major operation for tree maintenance.
My guess is that its going to be a staging area for construction equipment — see some of the NPS alerts. https://www.nps.gov/gwmp/planyourvisit/conditions.htm
Not looking good for trail users if they have heavy equipment/vehicles crossing the trail several times a day.

ParticipantHuh.
My 810 only shows weather/temperature data from nearby weather stations…it doesn’t read any temperatures at the device. Its rated down to -20C/-6F – its been working fine these days, despite windchill numbers at least as low as those.Bilsko
ParticipantI’ve flatted twice because of the glass along the bridge (back in May and June!).
I imagine it could be someone disgruntled with cyclists on the trail going and deliberately breaking the glass overnight.
In past years, there have been some characters on the trail who have been openly aggressive towards riders… could be something similar.I’d consider stashing a broom along each of the bridges if I thought there was any chance it wouldn’t be picked up and thrown away.

ParticipantAwful news – I heard that there were also a rash of thefts from office garages (including bike cages) in Crystal City last week. I wonder if its the same thieves?

ParticipantNot necessarily concern over safety/maintenance, but I’ve switched over to riding Bikeshare bikes (instead of Blue/Yellow line) from Crystal City into DC whenever I have to head downtown. Unpredictable headways, roughly the same travel time, and a comparable cost (around $3 each way for Metro and $7 to activate my daily CaBi membership) make CaBi the more attractive choice for me.

ParticipantCan’t remember who it is – probably posted somewhere on the forum – but there is a realtor in DC who has a similar profile.

ParticipantI’ve had my eye on those Nor-Air tickets too and been thinking about taking that same trip. WSGFABR!

ParticipantYeah – my thing with this type of event is that I’m not really fast enough to be competitive as a racer – so I tend to make it more of a personal challenge. Its why I rode HBR and MC both FG. No chance I’d be competitive against the SS riders, but it makes finishing a tough/technical course a bit more rewarding having spent the entire time spinning my legs.

ParticipantLooks like a fun ride – checking the calendar now, but am leaning towards going. Have been on the fence about HBR this year – this looks like a good alternative.
Now, FG, SS, or sane?Bilsko
ParticipantCould be worth checking Strava flyby to see if the rider shows up – not sure if you use it, but if someone else on the forum was on the MVT around 630, then it would likely capture that individual’s ride (if they use Strava of course) – I’m guessing they’d be the one riding along and then stopped just south of Mem bridge for a while.
I was on the MVT down by 14th st. bridge at 5:15 – checked my Flybys through 630PM but didn’t see anything (but it wouldn’t capture anyone who’s ride timing didn’t overlap with mine, and I was done by 5:40)
