I would begin to hate them immediately if I were you.
Yeah, the last three entries on the list were just:
Fred
Fred
Fred
What’s up with that?

Thanks for nothing, you guys, I couldn’t resist.
Three of my five top rivals: crysb, Megabeth and acc (the latter hasn’t posted to Strava in like a year, as far as I know).

Quick! You can totally smoke Crystal on all the DC segments you guys are competing on.
But I think she’s got you beat on overall distance: http://www.crystalbae.com/bike-touring/

I haven’t been over to Veloviewer in a while. Rivals is something new in v2, yes?
No surprise on the top of my Rivals list – DIIIIIIIIIIRRRRRRT!!!!!!
Also, DaveK, dcv, SeanC, WillL, ChrisR, TimK, and some random other people I’ve never met.Bilsko

Yes, I should say so! Actually, I think veloviewer has a more interesting alternative to Strabbaranks — “Rivals”. I am pretty sure you are featured prominently on that list for me

I’ve never tried it, but this might fix the problem: http://strava-tools.raceshape.com/snap/
Luckily Raceshape appears to be one of the very few 3rd party tools that still has API access to Strava data.

ParticipantGood to know that it’ll fill in the leaderboard going back in time – guess I’ve always been too impatient to wait and see and too forgetful to go back and check.

ParticipantIf I recall correctly, Strava won’t retroactively apply Segment standings. If you create a segment on July 15 based on a ride taken on July 10, then it will only start counting for anyone who rode the segment after your July 10th ride – but it should include people who rode the segment on the same ‘inaugural’ ride as you. (I could be wrong on that, but its been my experience in the past).
Segment tracking is still very imperfect – if your fellow riders aren’t seeing a particular segment that they rode show up, then there’s a pretty convenient request form to have Strava staff manually link a segment to a ride. They’ve always been responsive and accurate when I’ve made requests (like twice)
I’m anxious to see some of the segments you came up with – I’ve found that there’s just not a lot of Strava recording going on on the C&O…

ParticipantI’ve been on it daily for the past couple of weeks now and its not clear to me why they can’t get it right.
The problem points are clear of any vehicle traffic and bikes and peds don’t weigh *that* much or cause that much lateral movement of the plates.
Seems like shoddy work to me.
I haven’t paid much attention…is this part of the big DC Water project or is this Pepco or DDOT…?

ParticipantWe must be on pretty close schedules…I’m seeing Rootchopper just about every day twice a day on my MVT route to work and home again.
Leave the house between 8 and 815, ride to work in Crystal City (20-25 mintues), then around 5PM head back the opposite way.
There was a loooooong train of riders at the Lynn St. crossing on the MVT this morning – I had to cue up way at the back. Finally, a bike traffic jam for me to b%^&tch about!

ParticipantA tremendous accomplishment for everyone!
Occasionally I’ll see the young RCV racers training on the CCT on my commute, but that pales in significance compared to this big ride.As soon as I can free up some time, I’m really keen to do this ride (either by itself or as part of a larger GAP+C&O ride)

ParticipantI love the climbing idea…only problem is that there doesn’t appear to be a good way to normalize elevation data in Strava. I’ve done rides with other BA members where everyone was recording to Strava and we all ended up with significantly (>10%) differences in climbing tallies. It comes down to the elevation data sources being so inconsistent. Phone recording will use topo map data and (possibly) other Strava data…GPS units will use (sometimes faulty) barometric pressure readings…
There’s got to be a good way to sort it out though.

ParticipantI think they were just referring to the name sticker on the top tube. Those stickers are pretty common and can be sourced from plenty of shops online.
Dirt has great one that he adorns his bikes with. (zoom in and you’ll see what I’m referring to)Bilsko
Participant+1 on dasgeh’s comment – it entirely depends on where you’re headed. I’ve ridden the CCT for many years now and developed different routes based on where I need to get to.
Generally if I’m heading to the West End/Foggy Bottom, I’ll ride (on the road) on Water/K St. until 29th, then take a left and ride up to M, then a right turn onto Penn Ave and go from there.Towards the White House – or, more importantly, Swings for Friday Coffee Club, I’ll ride on Water/K up to the nasty little intersection with 27th and the Whitehurst (AMIRITE?), then on up to Washington Circle and onwards to where I need to go on Penn.
If its Hains Point or VA, or something in that direction, I’ll take Water/K and then instead of the left onto 29th, I’ll head the opposite way along RCP. I take the trail all the way to the John Ericsson Memorial Ciricle, then hop on Ohio Dr. and ride the road thereafter. I just dont have the patience anymore to deal with the RCP under the Kennedy Center and by the monuments.
Generally on Water St. you wont encounter too much traffic – be wary of some cars speeding up and down the stretch closest to the trail. A *lot* of out-of-town drivers think they’ve discovered some secret way around G-town traffic, only to see No Outlet signs at the end of Water St. (That, and when looking at their GPS’s, they think they’re on the Whitehurst when they’re really on Water St. )
Occasionally cops set up stop-sign blitzes to ticket cyclists – maybe 3 or 4 times a year.

yup. I liked the look of the aeon, but the atmos is a bit easier to swallow and on sale fairly regularly.
I’ve ridden with an Atmos that I picked up at the Pro Shop for the last 3 or 4 years and have loved it. I just bought the Aeon and its amazing how much lighter it is. Still very happy with the Atmos and am keeping it and still using it…but the Aeon just doesn’t even feel like its there. (Kind of like all the money that was in my pocket before I bought it.)
I tried and really wanted to like the Prevail, but the Aeon (and Atmos) just sit a bit better on my head.

Ride report:
The trail is pretty easy to pass through – I was on my Surly with 28s and only had to walk a small section because the overgrowth was blocking my view of the trail and I didn’t want to risk hitting anything.
Its nice that some generous soul has placed wooden slats over two holes along the trail -nice sturdy wood that I rolled right over.
Going from the MVT towards the Pentagon was pretty easy – I think the climbing would be a bit trickier going the other way.
There was a white SUV parked inside the fence at the boathouse by the pentagon and I heard someone using a Weedwhacker but didn’t see them. The SUV looked all Pentagon-policey so I just kept rolling through.
Hopped the curb down onto the freeway off-ramp. I must have been a sight for those drivers who came around the bend and saw me rolling down the offramp. Its not terribly convenient – even less so if you’re heading towards the MVT from the Pentagon – so I’m not sure how much I’ll bother using it. Still, its nice to have route options
