Ducks at Nellie’s sports bar at 9th and U St. The mural is by Lisa Marie Studios who also painted the Love mural in Blagden Alley and the 51st state mural on Eno wine bar in Georgetown. They have a characteristic style of using a rainbow of colors.

When I think of mosaics I think of churches! Here’s the one at the entrance of the Cathedral of St Matthew.
The new GW Science and Engineering Hall. It’s a pretty impressive building. Hard to see from the reflection but if you walk up to the windows you can see a 3-story high bay for testing large structures to be more earthquake resistant.
Always fun riding by the castle on MacAurthur Blvd. According to Atlas Obscura this is the symbol of the Army Corps of Engineer and is also where the water from the reservoir enters the tunnel to the filtration system before being piped to our homes. I suppose if you can build anything for the gate then it might as well be a castle!
In honor of purple rain, the purple mural on the wall of Bohemian Caverns on 11th and U St. I don’t usually bike down 11th St so happened to catch this striking mural of various jazz greats. Titled the Resurrection by Udofia, not sure if it’s because of the other mural that used to be there or Bohemian Caverns had fallen into hard times. Here’s hoping they come back!

I didn’t realize that purple symbolizes the color of the apocalypse. Perhaps appropriate that club Heaven and Hell and neighboring Columbia Jazz station are painted in purple.

If you are a Mexican restaurant or taco place, these days you also need a mural. This is the mural on the side of Rebel Taco next to the U St Metro.

The parking lot of Cardozo High School has a great skyline view of DC. Apparently a popular make out spot too!
