This is uncontroversial….
You: NOAA/GSA
Me: Going glacially slow ~1mph, and carefully so as not to wipe out on your wet, POLISHED parking garage floor. I slowly turn my wheel left to turn, but going slow enough to remain vertical. Next second my wheels slide from under me and I go down hard.
Who is the dumb MFer who decided to polish the goddamn concrete making the floor of the garage?! I’ve ridden on ice. This was way worse! Seriously what the fuck.
NOAA confirms this is a known issue (duh), having me submit incident report. Apparently the real assholes here are GSA.
I see your problem: 2 opposing bureaucracies each with (barely) plausible deniability. I think your only solution involves studded tires and aggressive acceleration and braking until a singletrack is worn in the polished surface.

ParticipantThree wormholes on this ride: https://www.strava.com/activities/3062809615
Oak St. bridge over the beltway (Wormhole #1) and Wolf Trap Rd. connector trail (Wormhole #2) provide a shortcut from the W&OD through quiet neighborhood streets to Tysons Corner destinations south of Route 7 (largely) avoiding the Cartopian Hellscape of Gallows Rd.
Sandburg St. sidewalk (Wormhole #3) isn’t really a shortcut, but takes you between Merrifield and the W&OD while avoiding the ridiculously narrow bike lanes on Gallows Rd.

A couple of Babes on Bikes members have added after their last name in their Strava profiles but they aren’t showing up on the leaderboards. Leslie T and Lynn S are the two i know about. Is there something else they need to do?.
You need to make the icon the first “letter” of the last name. Or, put the icon in the first name.

Question… In the past, Slackers (sorry, FRIENDS of BAFS) were eligible for pointless prizes, but we seem to have been dropped from the pointless leaderboards. (For example, Dirty Biker)
Thoughts?
Maybe Friends of BAFS need to from a team and have that included like the other ones, except maybe in the points leaderboards.

ParticipantThere was a bucket truck blocking the Washington Blvd. underpass on the Custis ~5:40pm Tuesday, 01/21. They were working on something between the bridge beams, and the truck completely blocked the trail, although 2 unencumbered roadies ahead of me managed to climb over one of the supports and get past the truck along the sound wall. I bailed and went around through the neighborhood. Hopefully all clear now.

ParticipantThere should be size information on the sidewall, but eyeballing it, I would say no more than level 2 (and they may be only 1.75″ =~ 45mm, which would be too small).

ParticipantAlthough it is generally against my principles to get up early on a day off, I think I will participate. I assume after early coffee we will be escorting CBGanimal around the Arlington Loop to get to Mike’s for breakfast.

Where IS the new points system stated? I’ve scrolled through 20 pages of this “moderately amusing” thread and am none the wiser!
Here is the formula (to the best of my knowledge):
First mile riding bonus for each day you ride =10 points
+ Mile 1 = 10 points; Total 20 points
+ Mile 2 = 9 points; Total 29 points
+ Mile 3 = 8 points; Total 37 points
+ Mile 4 = 7 points; Total 44 points
+ Mile 5 = 6 points; Total 50 points
+ Mile 6 = 5 points; Total 55 points
+ Mile 7 = 4 points; Total 59 points
+ Mile 8 = 3 points; Total 62 points
+ Mile 9 = 2 points; Total 64 points
+ Mile 10 = 1 point; Total 65 points
+ Miles 11, 12, 13,…,N (where N is an arbitrarily large number of total miles) = 1 point per mile; Total 65 + (N-10) pointsbentbike33

I’m still way off on my loopy counter clockwise loops…I’m sure I have about 10 and it’s only showing 3…maybe I’m doing something wrong?

If all 8 segments show up in your rides, your doing it right, but the leaderboard is not picking them up well for anyone but me, it seems. Maybe try “starring” the ArLoop segments on the Strava web site?

ParticipantI usually don’t mind the rear blinkies, but there seems to be a new class of “all power to rear phasers” models out there that I find painful. I do my best to pass such users, or let them fly off depending on relative speed.
I’ve decided that if an oncoming rider or jogger has a blinding headlight, it’s my problem, not theirs, so I put up a hand or angle my helmet visor to block out the light. It’s what I have to do about car headlights and the sun anyway, so what’s the difference if the source is a bike or jogger.
