The bumps are also coming back on the W&OD going downhill heading west to go under the US15 bypass on the east side of Leesburg. They repaved this section last summer.
I wonder if there is an affordable technological solution to the root-heave problem on trails, other than eradicating all trailside trees? Maybe it’s something the League of American Cyclists or Rails-to-Trails Conservancy could study?

Honestly, unless they add barriers, those bike lanes are just uber/delivery drop off lanes. I wont ride in them.
They also need to widen the northbound bike lane north of 15th and around the bend onto 12th. It’s like only a foot wide!

ParticipantPerhaps the officer was responding to reports of an errant electronic sign in the street?

People have been hit by left turners and by right turners. I don’t think that’s going to help
But which way were the cyclists going, with or counter the car traffic in the adjacent lane?

It doesn’t seem possible to improve on the diamond frame if you’re building a bike out of tubes. That said, it also seems to be the case that UCI slammed the brakes on advancing the state of the art by using carbon fiber to build non-diamond-frame bikes so it’s hard to say how things would look without 30 years of purely political promotion of the diamond frame.
Try more like 80 years of purely political promotion of the diamond frame. UCI banned recumbents from competition in the 1930s after some Cat-2 French racer broke the hour record on one.

Huh? I went through there at about 7:30 and didn’t notice a tree down. Has someone moved it? Was it passable enough that I didn’t notice? (I have been swinging wide there for a few days due to overgrowth)
I went through around 7:00. It was not a big tree, so perhaps someone moved it by the time you got there.

ParticipantTree down across the very north end of Trollheim just as you get onto the boards. Dismount probably required.

Although they can be regarded as pedestrians, I would put the clueless tourists getting on and off buses in a category of their own.
I would put the Wharf area tourists in the same category as the MVT geese, although I suspect it may be easier to train the geese to the meaning of a bike bell.

4) Lady coming out of the Fish Market completely oblivious to the fact that you just pulled out across a busy sidewalk in front of 2 cyclists. Not malicious, but totally clueless.

Either you were right behind me today, or this happened more than once this morning 😡 I have to bike to slow along this area to avoid clueless drivers every morning and evening.
Two Words: Case Bridge. It carries you above the fray. There are curb cuts and protected bike lanes all over the Banneker Circle area at the end of the L’Enfant Promenade, and recently a curb cut was added between the Park Police HQ parking lot and the I-395 ramp road making the (curbless) loop-around from the 14th St. Bridge even shorter. And if I can learn to navigate the Case Bridge switchback cleanly on my contraption, any cyclist can do it. See this ride: https://www.strava.com/activities/2536761700.

ParticipantMVT at Memorial Bridge they are working on the bridge right at the trail entrance on the north side. They appear to be repointing the brickwork. Use caution as workers may appear on the trail without warning (or looking).

ParticipantHey, FOMVT!
At the curve north of the Humpback Bridge, the big pine tree has a large branch slowly descending onto the trail. Even I had to maneuver creatively to get under it this morning, so you know it’s low. I’m hoping you have the number of the right person at NPS who can take care of it in between the placing of July 4th port-a-potties.

How do I properly ensure a set of gravel tires will fit my fork/brakes?
Does the manufacturer of your fork provide a recommended max tire width spec? Some do.
