Somebody has been repeatedly breaking glass near there, so this could be the guy. Please call the cops.

Ugh, what a poser. Motorcyclists have only one enemy: Cagers*. Any energy and focus you waste yelling at non-cagers can’t be used to avoid actual threats.

*”cager” is a motorcyclist epithet for drivers, if that wasn’t obvious…

I was riding with a speaker playing music once when I happened to ride by a motorcycle guy (on foot – he had leather and Harley gear on, etc). I just happened to be playing “Born to Be Wild.” We silently nodded to each other. I did not rev my motor since I don’t have one.

I put one of these together and had several screws and bolts left over.

Sorry, can’t believe I’m the first in with an Ikea joke.

Yeah, but it was a fake. There was just a carefully concealed driver.

So the news is that a driver didn’t run over a cyclist. Back to square one.

For myself, I would also draft a full-on motorcycle if it were driving down the W&OD at a good clip. Roadies are inherently lazy.

Not as lazy as the rider on the motorcycle….

As I was coming over Memorial Bridge last night, I could see sheets of rain over Rosslyn and headed my way, so I hurried across, and then took a breather under the big oak tree next to the park bench just south of the bridge. A pleasant place to watch the showers pass, and stay somewhat dry. Thanks, tree.

After a few minutes, I looked down and noticed a used syringe on the ground next to my foot. I know this bench is a popular spot for cyclists and runners take a break, stretch, and fix a mechanical issues, so for safety’s sake, I thought I should mention it here.

    I saw that too!

Yes, lots of thefts at the Ballston metro bike racks. Amazing given the ped traffic around there. Also, there has been an on-going problem of bike thefts in general along the Rosslyn-Ballston corridor so I wouldn’t lock up a really nice bike for long periods of time there, even in a garage. Is there anyway you could bring the bike into your building? You may want to ask your potential employer; just explain that you are a bike commuter and are looking at your options. Hotels often have unadvertised gym memberships available; they build gyms in order to attract guests but no one ever uses them so they give out memberships to the locals.

I had one stolen there in daylight. The ONE day I forgot my u-lock and used a cable lock.

ballston metro will definitely have semi-secure bike parking once the plaza is reconstructed. You’ll have to register your smart trip card to act as a key to the cage and key in and out, but anyone will be able to register their smarttrip card in order to do so.

Current estimated construction start: 2018 (it was delayed due to safetrack).

It’s hard to patch or sew shut stretchy material in a way that will last. I once repaired shorts by sewing an entire new panel over the old one made of stretchy black fabric. It hid the repair and gave the stitches something to grab.

Can’t help you with the non-gym shower, but two things about secure parking – there are bike lockers at the Va. Square Metro a short distance away, and there are plans to reconstruct the area around the Ballston Metro that might include more secure bike parking in a few years.

It’s definitely closed more frequently now. And it’s getting harder not to give the building the finger when it is open.

I find it quite easy to give the finger. That’s the reason the closures annoy me.
