In the past year, I’ve found a wallet and three cell phones in the bike lanes between Ballston and Courthouse!
And why do I suspect the people were still attached to them when they were *found*?

ParticipantCongratulations, that is a sick and twisted hill.

ParticipantLast night was terrific. I just wish the Confident City Cycling classes covered flinging beads as one of their bike maneuvers. It’s surprisingly tricky.

ParticipantTomorrow is the Arlington Mardi Gras Parade. Are you ready?

ParticipantWait a second. You mean I can get away with being mean, harsh, uncaring, and rude if I have the letters C, F, & O behind my name.
Huh.That’s seems so much better than B, I, T, C… oh never mind.
I do have a point.
Over the weekend I rolled over to Leesburg to see my best friend. After all those damn hills I commute over, the ones I hate. The ones I feel faint coming to the top of, the ones I give rude names like “My Best Friend’s Boob Job,” nothing on the W&OD bothered me. Either I have incurred permanent brain damage from a lack of oxygen going up those hills (in that case, I know *someone* else who is oh, in so much more trouble than I am, (climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro– Poohbah) or I’m becoming more “fit.”
Be still my cold heart.

ParticipantGeez, I was there for a long time. Probably 12:30-2:00, I was catching up with a girlfriend I don’t see very often.

ParticipantWhat’s the point of riding if all you eat are those hideous biscuits or disgusting gels? Neither of those things are enough to motivate me to get my rear in the saddle. I’d rather stay at home and lick the hardwood floor. At least there might be some stray smudge of grape jelly.
It’s good to have friends who like to eat and know the local geography. Yesterday I stumbled into South Street Under in Leesburg, two blocks off the W&OD at Harrison Street. http://southstreetunder.com/
Homemade breads. Homemade soups. Homemade ice cream. *Chocolate chip oatmeal cookies* Did I mention they make all of this on the premises? And best of all there is plenty of bike parking, and it’s counter service and casual.
It was worth 50 miles.
Happy trails,

ParticipantThe best commute in the world won’t work if you aren’t happy with the school system. I’d look at Falls Church City (in Virginia) first.
Good luck.

ParticipantHave been following this thread several times a day and hoped things would work out. So glad they did. Congratulations!

ParticipantThat Sir, was a brilliant interview.

ParticipantArgh….That’s not the direction I was headed in…
Is Bike Arlington regalia required? Because I might freeze to death.ann

ParticipantMr. Kelley,
Is there a dress code that I can flagrantly disregard?
annacc
ParticipantAnd the naked man standing behind the Boy Scout represents moral fitness. I am not making this up.
Don’t worry Dirt, I’ve got my camera batteries sitting in the charger.ann

ParticipantReally? Boy Scouts, naked men and barely clad women, what’s odd about that? At least they’re not on bikes. Speaking of odd, the placement of Bike Arlington in the Mardi Gras parade next to a circus club and Freddies Beach Bar is very, very, funny.

ParticipantI love:
getting up in the morning knowing I have a ride to look forward to
exploring new cities on a bike
going slowly enough to see things I hadn’t previously noticed and being able to photograph them
scaring the daylights out of my friends who tell me what I do is dangerous
meeting the people who ride bikes
