Bike Commuting how I love thee. . .

Since it’s Valentines day I thought I would start the Cliche why we love bike commuting list.

Here goes
1) I love the parts of my commute that I don’t even know how to get to by car.

2) I love zooming down a big hill (with requisite caution and obeying all traffic rules and regulations, natch) and feeling like a kid….

3) I love biking down the MV Trail from Roosevelt Island and watching the sun rise over the US Capital during the winter time

4) I love the chattering animals in the National Zoo in the early morning

5) I love arriving at work invigorated and lively instead of angry and upset.

6) I love feeling connected to the city I live in with more than just my eyes through a windshield.

7. I love getting to play for two hours every day.

8. The sunrises over the Potomac River at Dyke Marsh, my little reward for riding the first 3 miles to work.

9. Love to whir along streams and forests (when on the trails), which are in full bloom in the Spring.

10. I love seeing all the bike riders out in DC, even on cool February days.

I love:

getting up in the morning knowing I have a ride to look forward to

exploring new cities on a bike

going slowly enough to see things I hadn’t previously noticed and being able to photograph them

scaring the daylights out of my friends who tell me what I do is dangerous

meeting the people who ride bikes

I love being able to eat anything I want and not have to go to the gym.

I love getting to say “good morning” to people as I bike by, especially the regular security guards I bike by every day.

Feeling like I’ve already accomplished something before I’ve even arrived at work.

I love not being “at work” until I’m at the office, and feeling like I’m on my own time as soon as I leave it.
