Hey, I have never done a triathlon before. I am wanting to begin training for one and was hoping to find some guidance here. Does anyone have advice on where to find a great bike for a noob? ;) I don’t need top of the line, but Target doesn’t work either. Would love to hear your thoughts on this. Thanks.

You want to do this. http://www.restonmasters.com/jmls-lake-swim/

The bike only needs to be good enough. I’ve seen everything out there. Hybrids, flat pedals, high-end tri-bikes, there’s a wide variety on the course.

If this is a once-in-a-lifetime event, good enough is fine.

Here’s an entry-level tri. Short swim, flat bike course, flat run course. http://www.setupevents.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=event_detail&eventID=2569

When are you thinking about getting this off the ground? And, I think this is a terrific idea.

Saw these in South Beach, Miami. One bike appears to have a rack built from parts of a walker. And the letter carriers rode bikes along their routes.

My only regret was the hour-long line to sit on Santa’s lap. But with a choice of eating lunch or standing in line with five-year-olds, I chose lunch.

Oh my, you go into a year end rush at work and look what happens. Well, it’s probably time Santa considered alternate forms of transportation, maybe acc and I can convince him to join Freezing Saddles. Although it starts a few days too late for his most epic ride.

Oh LIZ! Isn’t it wonderful that you have your own set of sparkle tights? Gosh, I bet you’re really glad. Oh, and guess what? I have extra tutus. I know you’re happy about that too.

Which color? Pink, white, black, blue, or red?

I prefer my ice in my drink. That is all.

After a lot of arm twisting, eminva has agreed in principle to sit on Santa’s lap with me in bike kit. It will be so awesome…. I think I’ll go dig out my sparkle tights.

He’s a good guy, tell him that Tim Kelley (the tall guy who used to work with him) sent you guys.

I followed him over from Tysons II about 10 years ago. I have pictures of that specific Santa going back almost 20 years. He is the first Santa that my son didn’t flip out and have a meltdown over sitting in his lap. :-)

Hey now. Isn’t Santa at Tysons? Oh my. That would make quite a picture…..

It was a fun morning! Snow, mud, and cupcakes. It is always a great event, I look forward to next year. (It was chilly)

I loved watching the first two races, Cat4 Men and Masters Men. It is one brutal haul around that course multiple times with uphills and steep descents, barriers and a strange woman handing up cupcakes.

Speaking of Hozn, I was asked to nominate you by someone who wishes to remain anonymous but has an active account here on the forum. He said,

“Every time I interact with Hozn, which is fairly regularly [he represents the goals of WWPD]. His positivity is certainly evident in his forum posts where he always stays calm and is appreciative of other’s points of view. He was also very welcoming and supportive of me when I started riding about a year ago. He’s also offered great tips on gear, bike fit, and repair. He’s also volunteered his time to support cycling by creating the back-end for freezing saddles.”

    Well done.

I’ll be there for the first several races, until I run out of cupcakes (or die of hypothermia). I’m going to pick up a few trays of cupcakes and could use some help with hand-ups. :-)

I’ll be wearing a blue, Forever Lazy Suit, made famous by Dirt.

Thank you all for the fantastic things you’ve done and posted over the last year! I’m so fortunate to be a part of such an amazing community.

Have a fun and safe holiday season.

Pete, three years ago you were the first person to welcome me, a middle-aged novice who did not know road bikes didn’t have kickstands or kit had to match to this community.

You’ve welcomed everyone who has come to this forum, you’ve patiently offered suggestions, advice, and recommendations about bikes, bike gear, places to ride, and how to behave.

You have been consistently positive and upbeat about cyclists, motorists, and sharing the road.

We really should have an advocacy award in your name.

    Oh wait, we will.

    Stay tuned.
