ParticipantMy Frankenstein project bike, a Ridley Domacles (Belgium), with 3 different classes of RED componentry and Dura Ace brakes, but Belgium-made HED wheelset to retain some degree of pedigree, at the Barnegat Lighthouse on Long Beach Island during a recent summer weekend at the Jersey Shore.

ParticipantOn the way to check out the new Bicycle Space in Adams Morgan and get them to take the dang back wheel of my daughter’s bike. Needs a new tire after she skidded through the old one. Stupid coaster brakes.

ParticipantWell, my household effects shipment with the Rove was delivered this morning. It was the first thing I unpacked because I couldn’t wait to put it together and go for a sand/gravel ride on Trukhaniv Island. Big disappointment. Both shifter cable housings on the top of the down tube are seriously bent where they enter the barrel adjuster. The left side barrel adjuster screw is broken off with a portion still in the housing. Looks like I have to look seriously at for n LBS where I can communicate.

ParticipantMy first two wheel bike by Jon, on Flickr
Going through old photos in my dad’s basement, I found this shot of me with my first bike. I vividly remember taking the training wheels off. I used to ride all the time with the girl across the street (not the one in the picture, that’s my little sister) and I told her I wanted to take the training wheels off. She said, “Well, can you ride fast?”. Who says no to a cute blond asking you to ride fast? So my first unaided ride was in her backyard. I don’t remember any horrible crashes, so I must have gotten the hang of it quickly.

ParticipantBad news: The old trusty Jamis commuter tank has finally been retired after 40,000+ miles. It will remain in the stable for those really nasty rainy days when no other bike is willing to go out.
Good news: Big Rove!

ParticipantBikeUp! has the Rove all back together and in good shape. They recommended that I also replace the rear derailleur that I banged up last year riding on the North Bend rail trail east of Parkersburg, WV. I have the replacement and will get that one with my spring tuneup.

ParticipantHow did you get that so quickly? Does QBP have a distribution center over there?
