“Snow White” which I built up over the winter of 2012, after I snatched up the 2010 Ridley Domacles frame off of Craigslist. I built this to go fast.
“Grey Ghost,” another Craigslist special that is my “go to” bike, especially for climbing Hills or mountains and my daily commute. 2009 Trek Madone 5.2 with Sram Rival components..
The “clunker,” a 92 GT Talera, used to run errands and to bike in the snow to the local MetroRail station.January 24, 2015 at 3:01 pm #1021203Raymo853

My new station wagon. (For younger people, “station wagon” is the old-timey term for SUV.)
You and I seem to be in the same group that is sadden station wagons are no longer offered too much in the USA. Eveytime I am in the EU I go a bit geeky taking photos of wagons Accords, Civic, Mazda 6 and such.

My wife still thinks I’m crazy because I run around the auto show grumbling about all the cool wagons Europe gets that we don’t. And the ones that we do get, they don’t give us the manual transmission. Heathens…

Get a Mazda 5 with a manual and keep the last row of seats down. Just imagine it looks more like a station wagon.

Used BMW 3-series sportwagon. Not crazy hard to find in stick. Came in AWD, too.

That’s what we have (but not manual). We looked at the Subarus and test drove one but they all got huge. (I grew up in Fiat and Toyota station wagons. Parents still drive a Camry wagon.)

Yeah, we have a Mazda5 too. That is an awesome car, though my wife is the primary driver (it works great for landscape work and the sliding doors are helpful with the kids). I drive a Volvo V50. First automatic car in awhile; I sold my Acura TL 6MT a couple years ago now so that I’d have a car that my wife could also drive. But, you know, the transmission of my *car* has very little impact on my life. Now my bicycle transmission is something that affects me far more, so I definitely understand getting worked up over 10sp, 11sp, electronic, etc. I can’t wait for Sram wireless [first to exist, then to become affordable].
That said, I am looking forward to our vacation in SW England later this Spring. Lots of driving some manual hot hatch around the countryside. What a blast.

My last car was an E46 330i which I loved to an irrational degree. I searched for 2 months to find the right one (you can’t imagine how hard it is to find a BMW that doesn’t have either leather or faux-leather interior) and intended to keep it forever, but then we moved to DC with street parking and I stopped driving to work. I didn’t want it to just sit on the street all the time. Sigh. As a result I don’t have the space or tools anymore to do my own maintenance and repairs to keep a Bimmer affordable to own. Since I just got back into car ownership a couple of months ago I got a euro-market Honda Accord wagon which I love, despite the automatic transmission. They’re not hard to find, you just have to know the trick to it (they have a badge that says “Acura TSX”).
To keep this remotely on topic here’s the bicycle I hung off the back of my sweet station wagon last weekend.

I’m really disappointed that they discontinued offering this here. Hopefully they pick it up again, heck maybe in AWD now. That was gonna be my next car. I loved my TL. And the automatic in the [non-wagon] TSX I drove awhile back was really responsive (quick-shifting, unlike the laggy geartronic in the V50) — and the paddle shifters were nice.

ParticipantOh, how I missed everyone on the Forum. Hope everyone is well. I took a quick look and saw what was up and thought I’d share what my Velo Orange looks like these days. A little different as the roads down in ‘Bama are a little rough! Here I was riding some utility trails on our red clay. No more shiny fenders and rear rack. Having a tough time selling that rear rack down here. Rock on guys.
