I am sure you know this, but be careful clamping the tubes! – easily dented. Seatpost is best.

ParticipantThanks for the warning. I don’t think it gets that tight, but I’ll be careful

Yeah, I think the danger is both from direct pinching the tubes and from any indirect dents from the strain that might be put on the bike while in the stand. That is a guess, anyway. I don’t have any firsthand horror stories, but have only ever clamped to the seat post. I am sure the internet is full of gruesome photos.

It’s tough, since that particular bike is a hair too big for me, meaning that there isn’t that much room on the seat post. But what I’m doing mostly is using the stand for storage – I got two cheap wall mount racks and then the work stand to store three bikes, figuring that I’ll have the stand when I need it. So it’s not clamped down tightly on the top tube, just tightly enough to keep it from falling.

ParticipantYeah, I am sure you are fine. I just wanted to mention the danger, as it would be tragic for something to happen to your new frame!
I actually just ordered a new Ultimate repair stand since the plastic leg collar broke on mine and the design changed (so can’t get the old part). Am contemplating mounting my clamping arm (which works fine) as some sort of more permanent repair stand. Or I will probably just keep the arm in a box for a few years and then freecycle it when I don’t do anything with it.

ParticipantThe de-icer chemicals and salts on the roads make a mess of bicycles. Probably time to switch to the “rain bike” for the group rides.

ParticipantWhere are all you commuters who were here in May? Is it too cold to ride your bike? Poor little woogums.

ParticipantI didn’t bike the kids today, it was the wife’s turn, but I did escort them to school so I wouldn’t worry that they crashed on ice or something.

ParticipantMy new station wagon. (For younger people, “station wagon” is the old-timey term for SUV.)
