I think you parked next to me at the end of the VASA ride on Saturday.
My wife had the blue and white Madone with the flat bar, and I had the orange pannier

Did you have one of those Spurcycle bells in the natural/silver finish?

Nice to see another Pistola. Mine is still stock.

And not too many of them out there. I love mine, it’s sort of a poor man’s Seven Axiom. I’ve kindda grown tired of the direction that Salsa’s gone recently, tho – sorta like 14 different versions of essentially the same bike geometry; waaay too upright and now featuring 37 bottle cage mounts. Long gone are the days the La Raza.

I’ve got my eyes on the new stock-sized, i.e. non-custom, Cielo Road Racers since they’re available to any dealer with an account with King… but not sure what to do with the Pistola. N+1 is in full effect.

I love the -17(?) slammed stem on the speedy bike and the bar tape / hood colorway on the commuter is beyond. Beautiful bikes!

rules 8 and 44. The guys at the shop laughed when I pulled out the white Fizik tape during the initial build. “on a commuter?” they scoffed. “oh ye of little faith,” i mocked. 9,000 miles later the beaming white tape now remains triumphant, impervious.

Beer, gin, wine, limes and 70 pounds of cat litter. That’s a party on wheels if I’ve ever seen it.

    What, no tonic?

PS – thanks for working the VASA ride rest stop Saturday. :) Erin and I made it back to HoS just great, probably the last of the vasaloppet route riders to return, and were only slightly cursing the hills! I then entitlement-ate two meals at the marina. Probably shouldn’t continue doing that as I up my mileage this year…

How on earth do you manage this? The last time I put white bar tape on my bike, I got it grimy just by putting it on.

Gee, I wonder why your pace isn’t particularly fast? :D

http://www.fizik.com/accessories/bar-tapes/superlight/white/ don’t settle for anything less!!!

seriously, this stuff isn’t your typical foam or cork tape. it’s not stretchy (at all), so it takes some care in wrapping to get it to lay flat and even. but, it stays super clean for a white tape. Only other tape that does a decent job in white (but is quite a bit more ‘spensive) is the lizard skins stuff, but it (for me) is more slippy than goose poop when it gets wet. NB – i don’t like riding with gloves in the summertime.

Always have a stock of tonic at home. :D

Sorry that I didn’t remember you when we met. Old head injuries sometimes impair my ability to remember people that I only see occasionally.

Nice to see the dummy on the ride. :D

I ride the dummy for anything less than a century (that doesn’t require drafting). It’s been on the Karras Loop for RAGBRAI once…that was a long (and hot) day.

But heck, it ain’t no penny farthing! That thing was a beaut.

Anyway, I didn’t mean to sound prickly about recognition.

There’s kind of a running joke between Erin and I about me being your stalker ( a joke, I said!) because I’m constantly talking about your posts/achievements/philosophies (because they are so damn posiawesometive).

I like having bike heroes. Seriously. You’re up there along with Nelle and Greg and a few other cyclists I have deep respect for due to their good works. :)

We need to do a longbike ride some time soon. There are others out there that would have fun joining.

+1 for having heroes. Rockford10 and I manage to talk about what Dirt has been up to at least twice a week, it seems. Also FastFriendlyGuy and Subby (both nuts about riding, and hence both amazing riders). And I love telling people about Rod Smith: anyone who is surprised that I ride my bike to work everyday is astounded by what he does with his bike at work!

Sincere thanks, y’all. There are some awesome people in this area that are great sources of inspiration… from an advocacy, leadership and riding point of view. The stuff people do here on the forum makes a HUGE difference. Honestly, I get inspiration from seeing happy people on bikes.

I usually rock the white Fizik tape on my main bike (commuter, Cross Check) from September to June and then swap over to the Lizard Skins for the worst of summer. I was pretty skeptical of the Fizik tape at first but it’s stayed pretty clean, much cleaner than the SRAM tape I used to use.
