Are you sure there’s no ground chuck mixed in with that.

That there is 100% pure IKEA meatballs!
It has bits of real puma in it, so you know it’s good.

IKEA is an acronym for what? Includes Killed Edible Animals?

Thanks! I am super excited! My first big girl bike!
Now I just have to learn not to kick my shiny new Velo Orange fenders
Either that or get smaller feet.
That might be solvable.
- How much toe overlap do you have?
- What arm-length do the cranks have?
- Have you ever adjusted the cleat placement on your shoes?

To be honest, I’ve never had a road bike that didn’t have some toe overlap. I think small frame+700c wheels+steeper head angle invariably means some overlap.

1. Hmm. Maybe 1/2″? I’ll have to doublecheck. Mostly I run into the ginormous fender stay mounts.
2. 170mm
3. Nope.May 31, 2013 at 7:32 pm #971543KelOnWheels

This is what my readings on the Internets today have suggested.

Its definitely not something you want to try and fix by messing with crank length or cleat positioning; both those things should be based on proper pedaling form and comfort. I’m a short dude (5′-6″) and every road bike I’ve owned has either had toe overlap or almost zero clearance. It just isn’t a big deal on a road bike IMO.

ParticipantThe C’Dale Supersix I test rode didn’t have toe overlap…actually kinda weirded me out since I’m so used to having to deal with it. All three of my bikes have toe overlap…in spots I know it will be an issue (the zig-zag ramp from the C&O to Chain Bridge is one) I just unclip and move my feet back on the pedals until I’m through.

ParticipantIt’s just a new thing I have to get used to, this being my first 700c bike. (Seems to be a fairly common complaint about the VO fenders on smaller bikes.)
It will cure me of sloppy wheel-wobbling starts for sure!
I was doing some drills in the parking lot last night to get used to the new bike, see what I wanted to adjust, and help me get over my continuing and bizarre fear of turning right, so I was making a lot of sharp turns – turned the bars too hard (going right, of course) couldn’t clip out in time, and fell over. Got back on the bike and was still rattled, so I promptly pedaled right into the fender stays and knocked myself over again
Oh well, at least I got that out of the way.

Nope, and it’s SO ANNOYING!
I’m just going to keep doing parking lot drills until I get over it

ParticipantYou should be relying on leaning more than turning the handlebars when turning. Also look where you want to go not where you do not want to go. I haven’t explicitly tried this (yet), but I recently read that turning one’s hips in the direction you want to go is also a good idea. He also says overlap is not a problem except in very low speed turns at which point one just has to be aware of the issue and deal with it.
All of this comes from a book I just read written by the founder of Rivendell Bikes (he’s a big proponent of steel bikes BTW but you probably already know that).

ParticipantSince this bike is a little bigger than my old one and didn’t fit on the ceiling, I had to find somewhere else to put it.

I hope you never have to move to the ‘burbs. I can’t wait to see how you work the whole family fleet in there, especially when the kids are on adult bikes.
