ParticipantPicked the LeMond this morning, explained to my wife it’s my favorite and I love it. My other bikes were like WTF, we can hear you.
Then on the commute in I saw 2 other Zurichs in the same blue / yellow paint, probably same year. Something’s going on.May 3, 2013 at 1:28 pm #969183bluerider

I so want a steel/alum single speed with some style like that. What rear hub are you using with that style of dropout? I think I still see a derailleur hanger.

Thanks, the 853 steel frame is so nice. Bike weighs about 15lbs. I used a White Industries eccentric ENO hub:

Thanks, if you ever decide to sell it or hear of one for sale locally. Please let me know.

Something’s going on.One of the worstest things that Trek ever did, and something I’m pretty sure I’ll never forgive them for, was getting rid of LeMond’s bike line. Even though they manufactured the bikes, I guess they never figured out why the LeMond bikes always rode so much better than the identically specified Treks of the day. I need to build mine up again. I miss it. Maybe next week.

I used to have a ti LeMond Victore — my first (adult) road bike, bought it for a great deal from a coworker. But after riding it for a few years, came to realize that it was really too small for me. That was a beautiful bike, though. Nothing these days looks as good as these classic frames.

You can come along for the ride, for sure, the tandem isn’t big enough for the two of us though.

what’s the size limit for the stoker?

It can go pretty small. It is a 16″ frame in back. The handlebars can be moved closer to the stoker by 1.5-2″. I sized it for flexibility.
On the upper end… 5’10″… maybe 5′ 11″? Much bigger than that and the stoker feels pretty cramped.

You’ll be fine. Nothing bad will happen and if it does, it’s always the guy up front that gets hurt. We always start on mellow trails to get used to riding off-road and on a tandem.

I’ve never seen or heard of a tandem mountain bike before. Can you actually ride over rocks/logs with that bike like you can on an ordinary mtb?
Newbie question: I know the driver and the stoker must pedal with the same cadence/stroke on a tandem but calling the person in back a “stoker” seems to imply that person provides more power than the person in front. Is that true?
