Did you have any issues getting those fenders to mount to the fork? It looks like the large attachment points on the fenders won’t actually fit snug up to the fork for most types of fender (Planet Bike, etc).
Hey Dave. I ended up just using a couple of hard plastic spacers from Home Depot and longer bolts so the mounts would fit flat against the eyelet mount on the fork. The space for the quick release is a little tight but works. I bought the Planet Bike Cascadia fenders as they were slightly longer than other fenders and they came with mud flaps which I love. I have had these on now for about 2 months without any issue. How do you like your Caadx?

ParticipantMy beater MTB looking all studly. The ridiculously long front brake cable was installed by yours truly (I don’t own cable cutters). You can’t really tell but it’s a full length cable wrapped a few times around the handlebars.

This is exactly what I needed. Thanks!
I love the bike. I commute on it with rack and panniers, I’ve raced it, I ride gravel grinders on it, I’ve done some ill-advised (to me anyway) trail riding on it, it really is everything I wanted out of a CX bike. It’s the first new complete bike I’ve ever bought and I couldn’t be happier with it.
/edit – I should mention that I couldn’t resist tinkering, so I immediately removed the 105 group when I bought it and replaced it with Rival. I also replaced the stock bars with my favorite FSA Wing Pro Compact bar. I’ve also replaced the front brake with a mini-V for better stopping power. Switching out wheels with different rim widths now is absolutely maddening because I have to adjust the brakes every time. I might go back to the stock brakes for that reason even though they don’t stop as well. Surprisingly I haven’t found the need to replace the saddle, the stocker is actually pretty comfortable for me.

They actually work better in the wet but are pretty bad in the dry. I’m gonna try some new pads first but I might hit you up on some suggestions if I decide to switch out the actual calipers. Love the changes you made, ambitious! Post a pic when you can. I switched out the saddle to my favorite Selle Italia as I had an extra lying around.

There’s a couple in here – the commuter pic is the bike in its current form, the off-road one is before I changed anything except the wheelset.

I’m currently running cheapo Tektro BX3V mini-V brakes on mine, I wanted to try the idea on something cheaper before I bought a more expensive TRP or Paul brakeset. I think I may end up converting to another canti brake like a TRP Euro-X or similar.

ParticipantORANGE!
Shockingly orange by thetejon, on FlickrI have to say that I’m way more pumped about my new bar tape than I logically should be, as it’ll be at least a month before I’m not wearing gloves so thick I can’t feel it.

ParticipantWhenever I ride in light snow, I seem to end up on the water in Alexandria, which isn’t actually an ideal place to be when it’s cold and windy. Whatever.

Word. I bought my Cervelo in November and I don’t think I’ve been able to wear fingerless gloves yet while riding it, even though it came stock with my favorite tape.

ParticipantDrove down to Williamsburg on Saturday because it looked like it was a little warmer down there. Still pretty cold, but had a nice ride. I was following a route I found on ridewithgps, and naturally ran into a bridge that was out way out in the boonies. The barriers on this end of the bridge I could just go around. It was quite a hurdle going over the ones at the other end. Made me realize I’m not cut out for cyclocross:

ParticipantInsomnia blows billy goats…Here’s my ride.. Not a soul out on the mall at 230am, except a US Park Police officer eye-balling me & my I-phone…I pulled my first successful ninja and vanished like a fart in the wind when started coming towards me.

That is the bridge at the end of Jolly Pond. Linking that loop with Little Creek Reservoir is about my all time favorite ride! Another great ride is to park at the Jamestown visitor center, take the ferry across the James and ride the backroads of Surry County to Smithfield and back. fabulous!
If you ever need ride suggestions around Williamsburg let me know. We spend a lot of time there.

Excellent, thanks! I’ve always wanted to try the ferry route. I also should try these roads in the spring/summer/fall instead of just the dead of winter. Some of the most beautiful scenery can seem kind of bleak when all the trees have lost their leaves.
I’ll be at the Cap2Cap ride this spring, starting at the Richmond end.
