ParticipantLGRides, Boomer2U, and rumipumi,
I see you cannot upload your photos. Please, try again before midnight. If that does not work, leave a message in this thread. I will make an exception and count your Strava photos.

Frozen foods were invented in 1931 by Clarence Birdseye. He was an engineer, businessman, and inventor from Canada. More here: https://nevadainventors.org/inventions-in-the-1930s/January 13, 2023 at 2:56 am #1123306Catedrew

In the 1930s, Arlington, VA began changing its street names. They switched from the variety of street names they had, to ones that were alphabetical by syllable for streets east to west, and numerical north to south, with Arlington, Blvd being the north/side divider (for the most part). The 1935 street plat shows the plans for Arlington Blvd. being constructed, and the street name change of Shelley Street to S. Fillmore St.

ParticipantDear fellow riders! Thank you for your participation and great photos. It takes work to decide on the day’s winner of the main prize. And special thanks for so many photos about the history of the USA!
But I would like to remind the rules. Please, reread them. The most violated rules are #9 and #11. Please, post only one photo, and do not bring items from home.
1. Obvs, you should be a participant in Freezing Saddles ’23
2. It has to be on a bike ride on the day it was requested
3. For the main competition, it has to be posted in the Forum on the day for which it was requested, i.e., 12:01 AM EST to 11:59 PM EST for the day it was requested. Sorry, we won’t count the ones that aren’t posted for the day it was requested. That’s part of the challenge.
4. The reason we say “for the day it is requested” is because we will release a weekly list of scavenger hunt items ahead of time, with one item for each day — but don’t take and/or post the pic until that day comes.
5. We will update the Scavenger Hunt theme weekly on this thread and Strava. We will try to update it in advance of the week ahead so you have time to make plans!
6. Your Forum post must be titled with the date and the found object/theme. Example: IF the item for January 1st were “borscht,” you would title your Forum post: 1/1/2023 borscht
7. Description, short backstory, or location are optional (but nice). That said, if your pic is abstract or not relatable to my request, please explain (e.g., I ask for “happiness,” and you post a pic of a tennis ball you found on a ride, please explain how that tennis ball = happiness)
8. It has to be a picture you took. You don’t need to be in the photo, but if you are in it, it either has to be a selfie or done with a self-timer
9. Only one pic/day should be posted in the Forum. Please only pad by adding one pic/day. (You can include as many photos as possible on your Strava ride.)
10. It has to be a picture, not a video.
11. Let’s stick to things you find out there during your ride, not things you bring or make yourself (unless otherwise specified). Example 1: Don’t scratch it into the dirt if I say find “2023”. Example 2: if I say find a flower, don’t bring a flower with you on your ride and take a pic of that. This takes the fun out of looking for things, which is the whole point.
12. Unless specified otherwise, your bike does not have to be in the photo.
13. Found item needs to be clear and discernible (or legible if text) in the picture. If you are using Tapatalk and are having trouble posting pics that are large enough, let us know, and I/we can help you with it.
14. Filters are OK, but no obvious/blatant photoshopping… not that we would know anything about such things.
Thanks,
SerdarJanuary 13, 2023 at 3:12 am #1123308bikingjenn

Greenbelt was built as a New Deal project as part of Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Executive Order Establishing the United States Resettlement Administration (RA/RRA).
The Greenbelt Community Center was built in 1937 and was formerly the first school in Greenbelt. Architects Wadsworth and Ellington employed Streamlined Moderne/Art Deco features such as glass block, angular fluted buttresses, curving corners, and stylized bas reliefs on the exterior. The WPA-funded limestone bas relief panels by sculptor Lenore Thomas feature scenes representing the Preamble of the U.S. Constitution, such as We the People over the doorway on the main elevation facing Crescent Road. Five more panels below the windows between the buttresses depict To Form a More Perfect Union, Establish Justice, Insure Domestic Tranquility, Provide for the Common Defense, and Promote the General Welfare.

Thanks,
SerdarI have a simple request. Could either you or Indiana (Janet) edit the posts on the first page for the current weekly theme?
I can find it on the FS Calendar, but that requires extra work. Trying to find it in this thread is very difficult.

Montgomery Farm Women’s Cooperative Market was founded in 1932. It moved to its current location in 1934. When the women went to buy the building in 1935, the bankers were dubious that mere women could create a business successful enough to pay the mortgage. However, after visiting the market, one of the bankers saw how successful it already was and granted the mortgage. The cooperative paid off the mortgage within 10 years, and have been there ever since. More complete history at this link.

Tell me about it! I was bicycling around in the rain just before midnight tonight, trying to upload photos from a phone that was often nonresponsive both due to being wet and due to the fact my fingers were cold enough that I wasn’t activating the touch function. And then both Tapatalk and my phone’s browser were being wonky about uploading. And if they uploaded at all, often they didn’t show it, so I’d try again and end up with two copies of the same photo in the same post. I’m afraid my language became rather salty after some time of this!

Alan, that’s great advice! Thank you from me, and I am sure from all participants.
Dear players, from now on, you can find daily topics (or challenges) on the first page of this thread.

Carol, you are not alone who had problems uploading photos last night. Therefore, as a single-time exception, I downloaded your photo from your Strava and uploaded it here. Please add your description.
