Construction/striping done in City of Alexandria on N Hampton, Monroe, and Stevenson bike lanes. (and yeah, I rode the N Hampton ones between Ford and Braddock the other day)

ParticipantI forgot to post this earlier, but many thanks to VDOT(?) for painting a bike line on Washington Blvd, between Lee Highway and the 66 on-ramp. Definitely makes that stretch of road much less stressful for cyclists.

November construction update on Anacostia River Trail

Bike lanes on 11 and 13th near Lincoln Park on the Hill,, though less than DDOT originally wanted.
It looks like there are no more planning or funding obstacles to the Old Cameron Run Trail moving ahead in Alexandria.
Washcycle also has lots of items the last couple of months for MoCo, but all seem to be County plans that are still in the outreach discussion phase.

ParticipantRoad diet and bigger sidewalks on 13th Street in Clarendon (4 car lanes will now be 2 car lanes).
This is a nice little shortcut to avoid the craziness that is Wilson/Clarendon Blvd.

ParticipantI was able to ride over the newly completed pedestrian bridge along Seminary Road over I-395 in Alexandria today, and it’s quite nice and wide.

west entrance (Southern Towers side)
the bridge zigs then zags, but it should be well-lit as shown by the street lights
looking northeast at I-395
looking southeast
east entrance looking from Kenmore Ave; the temporary crosswalk and route can still be seen, but the bridge is obviously betterI’ve only 2 bits of criticism for this bridge, and both relate to the area on the east side not even on the bridge itself.
- Crossing Kenmore Ave after coming off the bridge is not as safe as it could be. There’s a lot of pavement that needs to be crossed, especially since drivers coming off Kenmore Ave can only make a right turn. A pedestrian island here would do wonders for safety.
- There is a sign on the east side at Kenmore Ave showing “Alexandria” with a standard “Bike Route” sign underneath it, but without any clues as to where to go. Going straight means using the narrow sidewalk along Seminary. Going left means getting onto Kenmore Ave presumably to access Van Dorn St which has no bicycle infrastructure (unless they mean for it to connect to the future Van Dorn St PBL at Braddock Rd)
Other than that, it is very pleasant to bike and, when I go on my next hike, walk across.

Thanks for the pix.
Yikes, that eastern end looks very dangerous. Turning drivers are not going to notice people coming down that slope. Plus they treat it as two right-turn lanes, which will lead to visibility problems. Add middle school kids, a little bit of ice, etc.: someone’s bound to get hurt there.

ParticipantI got to cross the new pedestrian bridge this evening on a hike, and it’s just as great at night! Pics in same locations as during the day (same order, though I hiked westward across the bridge this time).

Participantbobco85, thanks for the pictures. Your videos are great too! (Very helpful for us bike advocates.)

ParticipantJust rode the bridge about an hour ago. The end at Kenmore could be improved with signage – warning for drivers on Kenmore, and for people coming down from the bridge. Also visibility could be improved, especially if the old Steak and Ale (that is what it was, isn’t it? ) is redeveloped.
The bridge itself is pretty good.

ParticipantNew Infra in the City of Alexandria.
Protected bike lanes on Van Dorn from King Street to Braddock. (also conventional lanes on a short stretch of Kenmore from Van Dorn to Seminary)
http://bikearlingtonforum.com/showthread.php?9574-quot-North-Van-Dorn-Complete-Streets-quot/page5
Buffered bike lanes on King from Janneys to TC Williams (the below is now completed.)
Conventional bike lanes on Kenwood. No link, going by memory, from Crestwood to Valley, and from King to Fern (?) with sharrows on the section of Kenwood between Fern and Crestwood.
Conventional bike lanes on Taney, Pegram to Latham. Haven’t ridden, but I have seen these striped, so the complete streets project appears complete.
Conventional bike lanes on Glebe between Commonwealth and Route 1 are complete http://bikearlingtonforum.com/showthread.php?10163-Glebe-Rd-(Alexandria)-Bike-Lanes/page2
