    1/24/22 Public Art

The Yards area. Not in a van down by the river.

Those are the real deal; I spoke to the owners once, and they lived in China and brought them back to Falls Church. I love how they decorate their Qin Shi Huang soldiers to match whatever holiday it happens to be. You were also at the portal to the wormhole of magic, as a real magician lives at the opposite portal to the Qin Shi Huang soldiers!

Interesting, but, the soldiers you mention are a few houses down the street and are facing the public path (wormhole). The ones in my photograph are on private property and do not face the street.
(Maybe I should go back and get their picture today.)

What a surprise the first time to see this when driving or cycling by the yard. And the elephant has been in different places around the yard.

#publicartfinder – since there are almost no yards on Manhattan I had to go over to Queens to try and get bonus points. Even there it was either small animal sculptures on fence pillars or left over Christmas decorations. This house on 21st St in Astoria went in for cast sculptures

*** 48 Hour BONUS POINT OPPORTUNITY: Yard Art ***

Go find some cool art in somebody’s yard this Monday – Tuesday while riding your bike at least ten miles and earn double (2X) points. Super cool, homemade art (such as the one [emoji3516] pictured above may earn 3X bonus points). Inspired by @karenbikes2 finding daisies painted on somebody’s (backyard?) fence.

Post your pic here, with some part of your bike in it, and a link to your Strava ride for verification purposes.

Warning: Please respect private property, especially in “stand your ground” states!:-0

I found this fantastic yard art, met the house owner, and made a new friend. @Boomer2U, we have one more mutual friend now.

    Bonus day!

I keep finding myself drawn back to this fence. Someday I hope I see someone outside and can ask them who the artist is. The panels capture El Paso’s history – from the star on the mountain to the relationships between the Spanish and the local Indians. I think the churches represent the various missions that were established here in antiquity.

Bonus entry: House in the 6600 block of Elgin Lane in Bethesda has this silver sculpture in its yard. Unfortunately, I had to get it from quite far away, given the gate in front of the driveway and my lack of knowledge of stand your ground laws in this area. Hence why even the piece of my handlebar in the foreground looms so large.

Oh my! This is a tough one for the faceless cabal to assess for “discernible” art. At first glance, it looks to be either a very high tree stump, or a hack of a pruning job!:-0 Keep an eye on this space for a plume of white or black smoke once the faceless cabal announces a ruling…

Sounds like you are on the cusp of a second Qin Shi Huang #yardart find (and perhaps even an #ImHer and #monuments trifecta?)!

Well, I suppose the question is whether the standard is that the object is discernable, or that it is discernable that the object is art. For the record, other than the silver color, it does indeed look like a heck of a pruning job–see photo (not mine), below. Just let me know if I need to untag the ride.
