Back by popular demand for its second season w/ enhanced guidelines [emoji849]):

    1. Discover any art form (loosely defined) that is freely accessible to the public while completing at least a 10 mile bike ride. Monuments and Memorials are EXCLUDED as they are a different PP by @HokieBeth. Only one art form discovery allowed per 10+mile ride. If you want to discover more art, then start a new ride. Rides less than 10 miles are not eligible.

    2. Post here on this thread a picture [use Small resolution] of your art form with some portion of your bicycle in it. Include the location of the art form following examples from the Little Free Libraries (also excluded) so that others may find it, too. Public Art rides/pics should be posted daily, so as to allow all a fair chance to play. Sandbagging posts NOT allowed and will automatically disqualify you from this pointless prize.

    3. Hashtag your ride #publicartfinder (not CaSe SeNsItIvE) in your Strava ride titles if you want to appear on the FS2022 #publicartfinder leaderboard https://freezingsaddles.org/pointless/hashtag/publicartfinder which I will sweep (at least monthly) for data for the official #publicartfinder scoreboard found here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Ob3HlhU34D4xrtbttsDIAu2knT8MOIZQ2EcAr6s5YF0/edit#gid=58255797

    4. Follow me (Boomer Cycles) on Strava so that I can verify your #publicartfinder rides

Entries will be judged by some faceless cabal on totally subjective criteria that may include use of creative objects (like your bike interacting w/ an art form), composition, light, artistic flair, witty captions, great stories, # of quality submissions, and/or # likes, kudos or dislikes, and bonus points. In the event of a tie, efficacy rules: most art discoveries/least amount of miles wins.

If you played last year, go find some New2U art! Don’t game the competition by resubmitting your discoveries from last year. Honor system in effect, but there may be extra points for self-policing or calling out any offending FS veterans!

Now go Ride and Seek your art form;-!

Faded but not forgotten – this is the last part of the “Chalk-in for Allie” art that remains visible on the street at 14th and Irving NE – the remnants of the “Build Safe Streets” chalk paint outline.

Here’s what it looked like last month, shortly after the event.

    Ocotillo by Howard Kalish

This sits in the middle of a busy roundabout, but I played frogger to get closer and take better photos. You’ve inspired me, Boomer. The sculpture’s flowers are softly illuminated at night.

Without getting into all of the gory details, a pig flying seemed to encapsulate the difficulty I had getting out today. This is at Butcher’s Alley, 4961 Bethesda Avenue, Bethesda, MD 20814.

Armillary Sphere, Willoughby Park, Friendship Boulevard and Willard Avenue, Chevy Chase, MD

The armillary sphere is an ancient timekeeping device, although this one is intended as art rather than being functional. The birds flying around the top represent time flying.
