ParticipantMural on the backside of Wiygul Automotive, 11728 Sunset Hills Rd, Reston, VA. You can see the mural from the W&OD between Old Reston Ave and the Reston Parkway underpass.

None of the online sources I found showed any art at all in Kensington, MD, and I was prepared to believe it was a cultural wasteland. But then i just serendipitously found this in a parking lot for M&T Bank, 10420 Montgomery Ave, Kensington, MD 20895.
On the other hand, this was done in 2017, and was the first major mural in all of Kensington.

This is the first mural dedicated in the Historic Downtown of Leesburg, VA. It was suggested by the Town to enhance the area around the bike racks and entrance to the Town Hall from the parking garage. This all volunteer effort was designed by local artist Kevin Dunn who directed and organized the installation using students and other volunteer artists from the area. Sherwin-Williams Paint Store in Leesburg donated the paint. The mural was dedicated in September 2016. More photos in my Strava.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

With all the public art rides I’ve led in Reston, I’ve never seen this! Thanks, Karen!

I was on my way to some murals near the house, and then saw this beauty along the way. The murals can wait for another day.
I had a hard time with sun angle, so pardon the quality of the photo.

It’s the Smithsonian’s Arts and Industries Building (900 Jefferson SW). It is the second oldest of the Smithsonian museum buildings on the mall, first opening in 1881. It was closed in 2004 due to structural concerns, but just reopened late last year with the special exhibition shown on the banners here.

Participant3/10: Totally forgot to post yesterday’s photo of one of the pieces outside The Modern at Art Place (one of the new apartment buildings near Fort Totten Metro).

Participant3/11: On today’s ride, I stuck with a photo close to home. Near Dance Place (on 8th NE near Kearney) is this wonderful art piece called “Square Dance” that also is functional, hiding the dumpsters to the Artspace Lofts.
