Back by popular demand for its second season w/ enhanced guidelines [emoji849]):

    1. Discover any art form (loosely defined) that is freely accessible to the public while completing at least a 10 mile bike ride. Monuments and Memorials are EXCLUDED as they are a different PP by @HokieBeth. Only one art form discovery allowed per 10+mile ride. If you want to discover more art, then start a new ride. Rides less than 10 miles are not eligible.

    2. Post here on this thread a picture [use Small resolution] of your art form with some portion of your bicycle in it. Include the location of the art form following examples from the Little Free Libraries (also excluded) so that others may find it, too. Public Art rides/pics should be posted daily, so as to allow all a fair chance to play. Sandbagging posts NOT allowed and will automatically disqualify you from this pointless prize.

    3. Hashtag your ride #publicartfinder (not CaSe SeNsItIvE) in your Strava ride titles if you want to appear on the FS2022 #publicartfinder leaderboard https://freezingsaddles.org/pointless/hashtag/publicartfinder which I will sweep (at least monthly) for data for the official #publicartfinder scoreboard found here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Ob3HlhU34D4xrtbttsDIAu2knT8MOIZQ2EcAr6s5YF0/edit#gid=58255797

    4. Follow me (Boomer Cycles) on Strava so that I can verify your #publicartfinder rides

Entries will be judged by some faceless cabal on totally subjective criteria that may include use of creative objects (like your bike interacting w/ an art form), composition, light, artistic flair, witty captions, great stories, # of quality submissions, and/or # likes, kudos or dislikes, and bonus points. In the event of a tie, efficacy rules: most art discoveries/least amount of miles wins.

If you played last year, go find some New2U art! Don’t game the competition by resubmitting your discoveries from last year. Honor system in effect, but there may be extra points for self-policing or calling out any offending FS veterans!

Now go Ride and Seek your art form;-!

    Part B for today

The Irving Schwartz library has been closed for some repairs and renovation. Supposedly it will re-open tomorrow but I didn’t want to wait to get this photo when people would see me lying on the ground. Shades of Boomer.

This hanging work is called Helix Nebula and is by Michele Gutlove. One picture shows the top tube on my bike. The other shows the work more in focus. You can’t have everything in one photo, right?

Mural painting inside the tunnel under Colts Neck Rd in Reston which is part of Ben Volta’s “Thoreau’s Ensemble” which adorns the entrance to both sides of this tunnel as well as inside. During BAFS2021 I entered a photo of one entrance, but not the inside so hoping this one will count for 2022! More photos in my Strava for today.

Part A today. This is the entrance arch at a local fitness center and water park. I think it might be lit up at night so I’ll have to go back to check it out later.

Part B for today. All of a sudden the bus shelters near my mom’s house are getting all dolled up with art. Very exciting to see. There are more photos in my strava feed so you can see details, but this is the ‘money shot’ with the bike.

Everywhere I turn around here, I see more murals. This is a huge one right near the port of entry.

Part B for today. This mural is at the Stanton Street Bridge which is the crossing point to/from Mexico. It’s called “ElPasoPortAll” – a play on words with Portal being a word for door and Port (for) all hoping that the port of entry (that’s what they call it) truly is for all. The area around the bridge is starting to come back to life now that the COVID restrictions on crossing have been lifted somewhat.
