Illustration of the Riley Plantation where Josiah Henson was enslaved before his escape, from the Josiah Henson Museum in Bethesda. Josiah Henson escaped with his wife and children to Canada, and later wrote a book about his experience. He became an internationally known celebrity who traveled the world to talk about his experience. His story was one of the inspirations for Uncle Tom’s Cabin.

I didn’t want to get any closer because Boomer mentioned the security guard can be a bit assertive.

    2/10/2022 Black History Bonus!

Saw it in the paper this morning so rode down to check it out. This is normally where El Paso has its “LOVE” letters.

Another piece of butterfly art! This is on the side of a small building at the edge the ball fields behind the Vienna Community Center. I can’t believe how many times I’ve ridden past it and only saw it today for the first time!

[emoji849] Both of these are a stretch @consularrider … is the Green Lizard bathroom truly “freely accessible to the public?” Can you bring your bicycle with you into the bathroom??Please stay within the realm of public spaces and avoid seeking public art behind closed doors (especially if there is a waiting line).
And the faceless cabal rules against the GL bathroom as well as the 4MR Theatre building as an art form (regardless of what goes on inside).

Please remove the #publicartfinder hashtag from that Strava posting.

Last but not least, thank you for being such an enthusiastic publicartfinder!

“Truths that Rise from the Roots Remembered” by sculptor Jerome Meadows. This formation acknowledges the contributions of African Americans to the growth of Alexandria.

    African American Heritage Park
Duke Street on Holland Lane Alexandria, VA 22314

In 1885, the Silver Leaf (Colored) Society of Alexandria established the Black Baptist Cemetery just west of the Alexandria National Cemetery. The Silver Leaf Society was one of several burial associations organized by African Americans in the late 19th century. Burial society members paid to regular premiums to ensure that upon their deaths they would have a casket, funeral and final resting place. At some point the Black Baptist Cemetery was abandoned and in the mid-20th century, the area was used as a landfill. Development plans in the 1980 and 1990s prompted City and contract archaeologists to study the site. Their discoveries of headstones, footstones, and coffin fragments and hardware revealed the site’s history as a burial ground and ultimately led to its protection.

Great placement of the bike interacting with the art form! I also recorded my bike leaning against that same sculpture but your composition is much better!

That is an interesting saddle on your bike. What’s the story, and verdict, on it?
