Oops! I’d been tagging some of my rides that way, before the competition was announced. They all involved public art, but none of them had my bicycle in them or was 10 miles long. They have now been untagged.

Fabulous, and +5 bonus points for self policing and saving me from hassling the Bike Forum wizards to delete your rides (which requires a Presidential Decree).
And congratulations for chalking up the first points on the BAFS2022 #publicartfinder (which no one can see yet except for me)!

In the interests of “self-policing,” will an exterior shot of a museum or gallery filled with art qualify here? Asking for a friend.

Your inaugural submission for 2022 is duly noted in my private scorecard while the #publicartfinder leaderboard is reset to zero (hopefully in time for this week’s Zoom Team Assignment event). Please hold off on using the #publicartfinder hashtag on your Strava ride titles until then. I’ll make the scorecard public after 2022 Teams are announced, FYI.

Re the query on behalf of your friend, they should be informed that the subject of this pointless prize are specific art forms that are clearly discernible (but not necessarily understood). Pics of buildings that may or may not contain art forms will not meet the spirit and intent of #publicartfinder. Thank your friend on behalf of all PublicArtFinders for asking.

Boomer you’re the best! Love the revised rules, but I don’t know what you mean by “sandbagging posts not allowed”.:(

    Hi Robbie, and welcome back!

“Sandbagging” refers to collecting, sitting on, and not posting rides/hashtags # until the 11th hour, so that you can leapfrog to the top of the leaderboard. This is why daily postings are important to keep everyone’s cards on the table and the leaderboard standings transparent. Now there may be instances where participants cannot upload daily, but that ought to be an exception, and not a season-long practice, especially during the final days of FS2022.

    **For illustrative purposes only**
“Sky Column” at the new Long Branch Aquatic & Recreation Center in Arlington VA, which according to its creator, is “an investigation of ephemeral momentarily,” and left me momentarily confused … that might’ve been due more to the sub-freezing temps than the art itself!

SO excited this is back! Thank you Boomer!

Unfortunately, most of the public art I’m seeing is in El Paso Texas so publishing location might not help people much in finding it! Seeing as I’m failing miserably at taking scavenger hunt photos in an artful enough way to impress the judges, the sheer joy of having something else to look for cannot be overstated!

I start tomorrow! 10 miles + bike in photo. We can DO this! (And here’s a sample)

    1. Ride your bike AT LEAST 10 miles to any art form (loosely defined) that is freely accessible to the public. Monuments and Memorials are EXCLUDED as they are a different PP by @HokieBeth. Only one art form discovery allowed per each 10+mile ride. Rides less than 10 miles are not eligible.

OK, so just to clarify, since sometimes I can’t understand clear directions – we have to go AT LEAST 10 miles before we can post an Art pic? And is this 10 miles in one direction, so going 10 miles in a loop won’t work? I love this pointless prize, but sometimes being able to get 10 miles one direction would be difficult for me.

And are we limited to only one per day? So, if I DO do a 20 mile ride, could I break it up into two, and submit two photos for that day? Or can I just submit two photos for the same 10 mile ride? Inquiring minds want to know.

Go on a bike ride of at least 10 miles any which way you desire (but please remain upright with the rubber side down;). Go on as many 10 or more mile rides as your time/legs allow on any given day. Only 1 photo per 10-mile ride. If you want to upload 2 photos, then you will need to do two separate 10-mile rides on Strava for it to score 2 points on the BAFS #publicartfinder leaderboard. Otherwise, the leaderboard will only generate one point per ride regardless of how far you ride.

#publicartfinder – “The Marriage of Money and Real Estate” by Tom Otterness 1996. In the East River along Roosevelt Island. I’m posting only one photo, but would ask to be able to show each element separately, there are three in total. 19 miles ridden.

As part of the new Cielo Vista Branch Library, artist Patricia “Sabina” Muñoz was commissioned to help integrate public art elements into the project. Continuum is a 10 foot tall free-standing sculpture finished in warm colored Venetian glass tile. The pattern of the glass layout creates both texture and activity.

The Branch of the library is named for Jose Cisneros, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jos%C3%A9_Cisneros_(artist)
