ParticipantThanks for the insights, elbows and n18. Horrible and heartbreaking.

ParticipantThat’s great news. If the repair crew wants to “keep up the good work,” I’d put on their list the lip to get over the I-66 foot bridge near Madison Manor Park, where my chain has flown off multiple times (including one time last year that resulted in a knee-full of stitches).

ParticipantOh no. Heal fast, bikesnick. Yes! It makes a huge difference to be fit–you will recover far better and quicker.
I am sharing your details with my contacts, and also passing along Starduster’s information on concrete, which is used in Virginia Beach and elsewhere.
Sending hugs,

An amazing 14-year-old was struck and killed on Saturday. I recognize that this forum is mainly for cyclists but it was a scenario that many cyclists find themselves in – crossing a multi-lane road, one driver stops, another doesn’t. (I know I’ve personally complained to PG County about similar intersections within the past few months.) I think there is a vigil tonight if anyone is so inclined.
Link.
Location is here.
That is heart-wrenching. Condolences to the family. I will talk to my children again about this scenario where one car stops and another whips through the gap.
So sad. Be safe, everyone. w&wwheelswings
ParticipantLeslie – very sorry to hear about this crash.
E-scooters were the main topic of our Bicycle Advisory Committee this week. The representatives from Bolt and Lyme took part in the meeting and seemed genuinely concerned about making things safer. Do you have any idea which company the e-scooter was from? It’s worth giving them a call – they say they’re trying to be data-driven and to develop solutions and incentives to increase car-free transportation in a safe way. The numbers are on the Arlington Shared Mobility website, and you’ll also see a link to the survey that Arlington is doing on Shared Mobility Devices. Your input will be valuable.

ParticipantI just came across this story about Dave’s ghost bike. It got smashed by a car yesterday.

We were just there earlier this week putting flowers on it.
Be safe out there.

ParticipantHi my friends… I’m just bringing this important posting to the top. The Ride of Silence is tomorrow night (Wedn the 15th) starting at 7 pm at 429 L’Enfant Plaza SW in DC. Wear white if you can … or red if you or a family member have been hurt by traffic violence. Feel free to bring flowers to put on the ghost bikes…for Dave, Tom, Carlos, Jeffrey, and Malik. Don’t forget to bring lights for your bike.
See you tomorrow night.

ParticipantHoly smokes, Ian, I drove a carpool of gymnasts to Premier Court in Burke nearly every single night for the past several years. Heck of a commute, even from Arlington. My condolences on the move. Maybe take the VRE from Burke and keep a bike in a locker at Crystal City or one of the other stops?

ParticipantReminder: We are celebrating tonight!! Please join us.
I am quite thrilled to note we have sunshine this year in place of last year’s blizzard.
Festivities start at 6 pm. The prize ceremony will start at about 7 pm. Volunteers can arrive anytime after 5 pm.Location: Bier Baron Tavern, located at 1523 22nd St NW, Washington, DC (between P and Q Streets on the east side of the street)…this is near Dupont Circle and Foggy Bottom in DC. We may be carded at the door, so bring an ID.
Cover charge (suggested cash donation): $10 per person…all of this will cover food… soft pretzels, quesadillas, and falafel sandwiches. We have extra cash from January so there should be a lot more food this time.
Bike Parking: Bring a U-lock and any other locks you’ve got, ‘cause we will be parking our bikes on the street. Do not park INSIDE the neighbor’s garden – please keep your bicycle on the outer part of the railing if you lock up to any private enclosures.
If you’ve got a really nice bike or if you forgot your locks today then bring your bike inside… we have space for a few bicycles in the bar.We have about 75 RSVPs so far. You don’t need to RSVP (it’s fine to just show up) but you get extra kudos if you do.
See you tonight!

ParticipantWhy vote? Just for fun? There’s no correlation between the votes and the finalists, so… the real question is, which is YOUR favorite, Steve O? We will find out tomorrow!

ParticipantHi everyone. It looks like we have close to 40 RSVPs for next Wednesday’s prize celebration. Anyone else? Some of us are using this RSVP list to help determine how much loot we need to purchase. It’s also really helpful to have an approximate headcount for food preparations. So please keep the RSVPs rolling in… thanks! w&w

ParticipantHere’s my list of London Bridge contestants. Who am I missing?
Some of the crashes were really, really bad. Others were comical. Some were soul-crushing. Several hurt like hell. Some were all of the above. Quality and quantity both count.
Hugs and healing wishes to all. w&w

ParticipantHi all — It looks like we have about 30 people so far on the RSVP list for the happy hour. Any more? Please RSVP if you can. This helps the venue in knowing how much food to have on hand. And it helps those of us making prizes for you to know if you’ll actually be there.
Thanks and see you soon! w&wwheelswings
ParticipantProbably not what you’re looking for, but Phoenix Bikes on Columbia Pike is outstanding. Edoardo and Paul have saved my xxx numerous times.

ParticipantOh no, ooh, ouch, that sucks, so sorry Jon. Sending hugs and get-well wishes to you and to Gremlin2. That sort of thing is every bike-parent’s nightmare. Amazing that they were able to re-set the teeth. Fingers crossed for your Achilles. Speedy recovery to you both!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
