I have a couple of Blackburn Mars tail lights that I like a lot (had one, lost it, and bought two to replace it). Mostly because the mount fits large seatposts and is highly adjustable. I have two of the ever popular Planet Bike tail lights too but I find the mounting to be a bit below par so I don’t use them 100% of the time. I’ve also got a little Serfas USB rechargeable taillight that’s handy to keep for emergency lighting but you have to recharge it all the damn time (had a front light too, but lost it).

I also have an older 4xAA Blackburn front light that still works pretty well which is my go to on early mornings like today. It’s not super bright, but adequate and very reliable.

When it gets really dark I have two Chinese/ebay style “tactical” flashlights. Very bright, and cheap for the lumens, but the light pattern isn’t the best for biking and the mounts are a bit wobbly. They use 18650 cells. I also have a “night” helmet which has a Nashbar taillight mounted on the back (using heavy duty twist ties) and SOLAS reflective tape affixed to it. :D As far as helmet lights go, I really like having one because you can look at a car/motorist (or any other specific place) and see it light up. I have a cheap Bell one from Target/Walmart that’s not too bright.

One of these days I want to make a custom gaudy light setup on one of my bikes (and leave it on).

Super bright but you need to bring your own rechargable AA x 4.

I like [browsing] their stuff a lot and I think the BikeArlington reflective straps come from these guys.

I think my beater MTB with studded tires on is about 35lbs. I rode it on the W&OD once on a non-studded tire worthy day. It was fun.

I’m sure there was at least one incident on my commute yesterday, but I don’t remember it. YES! :)

This morning I left early enough to avoid almost everybody. I actually saw two commuters coming up Westmoreland before 6am!

I use a charger very similar (or the same as – not sure) to this one
    http://www.amazon.com/La-Crosse-Technology-Battery-Charger/dp/B000RSOV50/

Separate smart charging of each battery. I use Eneloops which are one of the best known low discharge models.

Did WABA have any (more) leftover trips to contribute? I’ve been logging but have about 10-15 less trips logged than in July.

It looks like a lot of fun but I don’t have a CX bike. Maybe next year. Then again that DCCX rookie race might be okay on a hybrid?

what happens when your 15 mo old daughter gets ahold of your phone without you realizing.

A few years ago my kid (when 1 yo) managed to purchase something via my xbox controller (with the TV off). I was at work and got an email confirmation. Luckily it was only a $1 purchase.

    ^ that.

Drop bar CX. I think I’m getting closer to convincing my wife I need one for wet mornings like we had today.

To the cabbie pulling through the bike lane to pick up a fare and cutting me off – Thanks so much for making me test my brakes!

I had a cab driver get irate with me for having to nerve to ride in a bike lane (coming back from the Freshbikes ride on Tuesday) because he wanted to turn and stop in it to drop off a passenger. We both started from the same green light cycle. I had a short discussion with him, and suggested it was fine and “no big deal” for him to wait a few seconds for me to pass before he pulled over to stop, just as if I was a car in a normal traffic lane. He was adamant that he could do nothing of the sort and continued to be irate and insisted that it was a ridiculous situation “it IS a big deal!”. He seemed to be ranting at a) the existence of a bike lane and b) the fact it was being used. I rode off feeling genuinely sorry for him. Still, better than the time in DC when a cab driver told me he would’ve shot me if he’d been carrying a gun.

I’ve never done it, want to do it and have been told I should do it at least once in my life. I’ll see how my schedule pans out.

BTW, that was me on Tuesday! Thanks for pointing it vvill. Definitely say hi next time. I could have used a smile on the commute-when-no-one-wanted-to-call-passes.

Will do. I wasn’t quite game enough to approach a stranger with “hey, are you that pregnant biker chick with the electric assist on your bike?”.

And now I know how to pronounce your handle. I was assuming it was German based but I kept thinking “das Rad”.

Will’s next sighting will need to go up a notch on the alphabet. You are to find three riders with handles that begin with E.

I think I’d have better luck with “C” and spotting 3 riders named Chris! Although I did see eminva yesterday.
