Looking at everyone’s tracks of my weekend ride, our various Garmins show up to a 2,000 ft difference in total climbing. Of course I got the short end of the stick…
I figured that Tim was just catching air shooting up and over the tops of all the hills.
I often go up or down 10 to 20 feet while riding the trainer. I checked this against weather reports and noted the rise and fall went along with the pressure readings. IIRC you can change the settings in the Garmin to ignore the baro. Overall I have found that I tend to end up about where I started so to speak and that the same ride such as the Arl loop produces about the same elevation.

I take it “roll model” is an intentional pun?
Don’t know any wimmens who ride unfortunately. Good luck!
That is a good thing I would think. While most of us have had unfortunate rides I would think one should not intentionally ride unfortunately.

ParticipantThe reusable hand warmers produce much less heat per cycle the than the non reusable ones. They are great for some things but are quite diferent in some use aspects. They take up more space, weigh more per BTU and become ridged when spent. They are way fun to click and watch the reaction. My kids learner about super saturate solutions, exothermic and exothermic reactions from them. How the disposables work is interesting too and even as they are useonce and toss they are made from largely innocuous chemicals.

If you could do it on a brutally windy and cold day like today, you’ll have no problem on a normal day!
This.
Today was cold and the wind on the Potomac was impressive. I was down 2 or 3 gears while leaning into today’s wind. A lot of the charm of the Arl loop is not there in a day like today was.

ParticipantThanks for the good tips. I have been planning to do the WO&D west + the Arl loop for a while. Mapmyride looks like a great tool and just what I am looking for. I want to tour around without spending all my time working on not getting lost. Who is this guy Pete Beers? D00d has ridden all over the place
Dirt, I agree nothing works quite like a ride. Running is too slow, driving is too fast and too disconected. You popped up when I tried my very first ride plan on mapmyride, Falls church to point of rocks and back. the loop that runs across whites ferry that consularrider posted looks cool too.
Am getting ichy for some rides. The hamster wheel and netflix does not cut it sometimes.

ParticipantI can whip up a true air filter that will not only take the particulates but also pulls many gasses and solvent fumes that the electrostatic system does not touch. Light simple and way less system energy used than an ES based filter.
Much rather make a set of jetpacks. Worthless but d00d we are talking Roger Ramjet rockets an’ stuff.
Not all that suprised that the wash area is the worst. I moved here in 1968 and remember folks saying that the beltway and dulles airport were both boondogles that would see little use.

I’d make a joke about hammer-throwing a recalcitrant bike into one of the substations, but I’d probably get arrested.
Is a recalcitrant like a recumbent except the bike lays down on you?

Participant…but only after a cuppa joe or 3. Am on #2 right now.
No test for me. Clicked reply and blathered away. Suspect the test is not active right now.
There is a world of funny just thinking up questions with the answers in them.

Funny stuff, caution there are a few bad words.
The iron on stuff works (I used to do a lot of diving) but you have to take great care as the melting point of the glue is often close to the base layer.

ParticipantTire patch. Fix the hole with what you have in hand, water proof, flexible and adds street cred at the same time…

Participantthat one brings back an old flashback.
I know this works as I did just this about 20 years ago for someone.
Snag a broomstick from the janitors closet, a roll of strapping tape from the shipping department. Cut a stub from the broom using the saw on a swiss army knife, wittle stub a bit with knive and smooth by sanding stub to a tight force fit using the sidewalk. (this is hard on your finngers and knuckels) Hammer stub into head tube side then in the rest of the down tube using a rock. Tightly wrap the whole mess with strapping tape. Was suprised when she showed up the next day on the same bike.

ParticipantSo where is the Sunday and 70 deg ride? We can do our part and not emit carbon. (No promise from me regarding other greenhouse gases)
