You can do walk up registration. IIRC, there’s no fee to register. It’s a donate what you’d like to support more women riding bicycles kind of thing.
I assume that one can bike up also.
Thanks.

ParticipantI thought about this a year ago and didn’t go. Does anyone know how soon before the date one can still register? If the weather is reasonable I would like to do a few laps.

ParticipantI guess that this qualifies as Trail Conditions https://twitter.com/WODTrail/status/801102752776589312.
Water fountains winterized, but the ones at MM0, Lee Hwy, Cedar Lane, Sunset Hills Rd and Smiths Switch rest stop are still up-and-running
Two questions.
Is there a water fountain at Cedar Lane?
I thought that the new fountain at the Custis Trail connection (mile 4) could work all year. Is that correct?ursus
ParticipantI would think that although the 2016 and 2032 have the same voltage, the 2016 would have less power which would either make it not able to power a device designed for a 2032 or it would last for a much shorter time.

Yup, that is what happened.
Any common household uses for the 2016?
IIRC, they are used for some car key fobs.

So here’s my question. I got 3 volt coin shaped duracell batteries to replace the old ones. But the new ones are thinner than the original blinkie batteries, and the replacement does not seem to work. The duracells were the only 3 volt batteries I saw at the drug store. Do I need to go somewhere else to find batteries that match?
Besides for the voltage the 4 digit code must match. The two letters just indicate the brand, e.g. DL=Duracell. CR is a generic designation with C meaning lithium and R meaning round.
I don’t know which type you use but all of my bike computers have used 2032. 20 means 20 mm diameter, and 32 means 3.2 mm thickness. You must have bought something with a lower last two digits than needed. I suspect that the drug store does carry the correct type.ursus

I was having a hard time visualizing this just based on the text description, despite riding this section almost every day. Score one for action cams!
I never was a good writer.
That must be me who appears on the far sidewalk after the car stopped.
Edit: I wonder what the driver was thinking since as the Street View picture shows, besides for the signage, he had to make a very sharp turn.

Whoa, I saw the same thing!
It was the same group of cyclists that rode in a little pace line and passed me on 14th St. Bridge earlier. Almost all of them were polite and friendly as they signaled their passes and greeted me in passing.
So they were actually all together. Interesting.

ParticipantAt about 8:45 this morning, I was on the sidewalk on the east side of Ohio Drive heading from the Waterfront to Haines Point. When I got to the crosswalk that allows pedestrians and cyclists to cross Ohio Drive and go past the Jefferson Memorial, I saw an unusual sight. There was a car stopped in the crosswalk on the wrong side of Ohio Drive (westbound lane heading eastward) and a cyclist who had apparently swerved to miss him not expecting a car in the wrong part of Ohio Drive. Several other cyclists had caught up to him behind him so I saw no need to get involved.

There is a water main break along the W&OD at Cedar Lane. Fairfax Water has been on the scene since at least 11 am, however, water is still flowing as of 4:30 pm.

There appears to be some sort of water leak along with a clogged sewer drain on the Custis on the hill between Adams and Cleveland, behind the apartments/condos. Right now it’s just water on the trail, but once temps get below 32, my understanding is that the water may change somehow, perhaps through some sort of magic, I dunno. In this new world we’re in, I’m not sure about all this skience and fakts stuff anymore so maybe it’s not an issue and it won’t freeze.
It’s an epidemic! 😮

I’ve got wonderful news as of this evening: my bike got repaired!
I took it to the bike shop this afternoon and was expecting to have to leave it while parts were ordered. Much to my surprise, the mechanic took the chainring off, got out a mallet, whacked it back into shape, and said everything else was fine! There was no damage to the frame, chain, crankset, or rear wheel (spokes will need to be adjusted). I was able to ride it home, too, with no issues.
The only things I need to do to the bike are to tighten some of the spokes, get a new chain guard, and to only change gears one at a time (the mechanic demonstrated the very thing I had done to mess things up, so I understand now).
A big sigh of relief from me was had because I really thought the situation was far, far worse
Before
After
I would think that the chain-ring metal would have fatigued somewhat which would make a recurrence more likely.

Then you likely haven’t come across the true idiots of Crazy Ivan tribe. Squirrels reverse direction several times before doing that.
