ParticipantSo I’m curious what have you feel you’ve learned from the whole experience? In the future will you wait at red lights or will you take a quick glance behind you before heading through?
Tim Kelley
ParticipantI’d be curious to hear at which specific locations people have gotten tickets? Is it along more major roads with stop lights or in residential neighborhoods with stop signs?

ParticipantHere’s an interesting idea for using old tubes:

ParticipantYeah–such a great movie. I can’t wait for the DVD to come out. I’m think I’m actually looking forward to some winter trainer sessions in front of the TV…
Tim Kelley
ParticipantYeah, if there is some life left in them, they have a big pile in their shop of various sized tires.
Tim Kelley
ParticipantWhat about Phoenix bikes? If the tubes aren’t that bad off they may be able to patch them and use them in their bikes…

ParticipantI like the Iwo Jima spot. Here are some pictures I took from a few years ago:

I would think that if you want to take the trip into downtown DC to watch the fireworks from the National Mall, bike would definitely be the best option there. In past years there has even been a bike valet!

ParticipantYou might also want to look at Four Mile Run trail through Bluemont Park…a couple loops through there might be fun.
Tim Kelley
ParticipantI heard back from the Trails guys–they can’t seem to find the tree branch. Can you provide a more specific location description? Maybe a marker number?
Thanks!
Tim Kelley
ParticipantYup, that is one option, or you could take the Custis to the Key Bridge and through Georgetown if you don’t mind riding on the streets.
Google Maps has a bicycle routing function now that is pretty good too.
Tim Kelley
ParticipantCaleb–where is it that you are coming from?
Tim Kelley
ParticipantThanks! I’ve passed it along to our Parks and Rec/Trails division.
Tim Kelley
ParticipantJust goofing around really…I can’t wait to see the rest of your pictures. How many did you end up taking over the course of the weekend?
Tim Kelley
ParticipantAnd a great writeup here: http://www.arlnow.com/2010/06/14/australian-wins-clarendon-cup-after-local-favorite-crashes-late/

Participant@Consularrider – Either way, the sidewalk in front of Pizza Hut in Alexandria is pretty beaten up.
Here are the details on the intersection plan from one of the Arlington engineers:
“The project at this intersection will involve significant upgrades to the crosswalk across S. Glebe Road. It will be restriped as a ladder-style marking and will feature a new cut through the median between Four Mile Run Drive (basically a frontage road here) and S. Glebe Road. The crosswalk across W. Glebe Road will just be restriped, as it received more recent improvements such as the median refuge. There will be a crosswalk striped across Four Mile Run Drive on the west side of the intersection and the ramps for this crosswalk will be upgraded as well.
This is a VDOT project and we are only involved in the MOT phase (long story) so the design is already finalized. The project has yet to go out to bid, so I would not expect to see construction here until the fall at the earliest.”
