Huge thanks to everyone who responded (this forum is so ridiculously helpful).

I went with the PD A530s, Shimano cleats, and the Pearl Izumi All-Road Cycling Shoe.

Trip/hospital report in a few weeks.

Eminva felt kinda bad about not getting a lot of miles in December. So she went on a ride today. She is adding more than 120 miles to her team tonight. Is she amazing, or what?

    EPIC.

You should get a little kickback from Park because the day I read this I ordered the Chain Gang tool from Amazon. :)

$450 for a Surly Cross Check – does that mean it’s stolen?

Bon Air, Virginia – probably 5 or 6 years-old, peddling along and somehow running into an OPEN CAN OF PAINT on someone’s paved driveway and knocking it over, spilling paint everywhere. I also remember BOOKING out of there before I got caught. We rode our bikes everywhere – so much freedom at such a young age back then. So different now.

This competition has been extremely meaningful to me. After a good start bike commuting last year, I really fell off as the kids’ (I have 4) after school activities cranked up in the spring. Then it was just one excuse after another. THEN THE WEIGHT GAIN.

Anyway, the mileage I sent in was based on what I *should* have been doing, not really what I *was* doing. And I know that if it wasn’t for Freezing Saddles I might have ridden to work once this year, then given up. Instead, I’ve ridden every day – partly because I love challenges but mainly I don’t want to let my kickass team down.

And I am RIDICULOUSLY the happier for it. :)

I just about ate it on Glebe on the steep hill heading down to Chain Bridge..doing about 35mph, I hit the brakes and the rear locked up immediately due to residual slickness on the road. It’s shaded through there, so the road never quite dried out from this morning’s frost. Needless to say, fishtailing at 35mph, with oncoming cars on one side and a guardrail+ditch on the other is slightly unsettling.

I went that way this morning – around 7:30. That is my absolute favorite part of the route…but it also scares me to death. A lot of times you can just see the oil slick sitting there, waiting to take you down.

Glad you made it out alive…bet the ol’ adrenal gland was working overtime.

I am sure I will find out shortly, but I assume the kickass leaderboard will figure out that my ride home should only be credited the miles and not another 10 points for the trip home. Is that correct?

I actually like to run to and from work some times, so if we are counting trainers, I am totally not feeling guilty about running. :D

(But actually willing to follow whatever guidelines Team FourCuattroPhoFUUUUUU wants me to follow).

Just a heads up, but the sidewalk is closed on the portion of 15th street along Treasury and all of the peds are spilling into the bike lane. I (sadly) drive into today and saw three near collisions in about 2 minutes.
