A little muddier than usual taking full advantage of a bike with wide tires!

ParticipantI know this is the absolute worst reason to want a bike, but those Van Dessels just look so freaking COOL. That’s definitely going to be my next ride.

ParticipantThat’s so great. Thank you.
Are they planning on doing something with the south end of that road that is now blocked off?

ParticipantThis is kind of related – but a friend of mine often encourages early morning jaunts down the GW parkway from McLean. Early being 6am (and on the weekends). A little Googling shows that the NPS does not allow bikes on the Parkway, but I just wanted to check and see if I missed something and it is acceptable practice during “off-hours”.

ParticipantIt’s pretty ridiculous. I tweeted the picture to them, too.

ParticipantDid this Saturday morning. MacArthur then down to C&O Park is one of my favorite ride segments. Chugging back up from the river will make you feel like a mini-rockstar!

I had almost forgotten what riding in hot weather felt like, but no more. I was drenched by the time I made it to work.
On a high note (for weirdos who track such things) I am currently #6 on the Reflecting Pool Sprint on Strava’s segments. I don’t actually think I was going all that fast, but I had few pedestrians to contend with, so I was able to maintain my pace.
I’m sure I’ll be unseated any minute now (if not already).
Don’t get too attached to it. Someone will mark it as hazardous now that it has been outed.

Note that this is merely a cyclocross bike and not a gravel bike: http://bikesnobnyc.blogspot.com/2013/07/whats-grey-and-crunchy-and-requires-you.html
What’s the difference? Tire width/tread?

I’ll Rochambeau you for that. Cartman style though.
I’m done having kids so that might work!

ParticipantHugely helpful. Thank you for the advice – much appreciated.
Those wheels are exactly as Hozn described – alloy rim with carbon fairing.
Can someone make a recommendation for a reasonably priced wheelset for me/my bike?

ParticipantOh hey look what I saw on the cover of the local paper when I got home yesterday!:

ParticipantWe live in the neighborhood that borders that park between Westmoreland and Old Chesterbrook. Our family goes down there all the time with our lab so she can swim. The trail gets lots of use from runners and dog walkers but I have never seen any bikes other than tiny little kids. CX would be a blast back there. Once you cross Old Dominion going East it starts getting a little sketchy because I don’t think they have easements all the way to the Potomac, so you will be stuck on some private land. I guess that just makes it an adventure!

ParticipantVery happy to be back on the bike after two and half months. Picked a gorgeous day to get it going again, too. The first person I saw was dcv (said mornin’ as he passed me near Lee+WOD) and I just took it slow and easy. Deliberately rode past where I wiped out and got loaded into the ambulance. That’s over and done with now.
Like I said on Strava – I will never take bike commuting for granted again. The past 10 weeks in the car was terrible. So glad to be back at it.
