ParticipantI am. I’ve hiked there but never biked. The only way I’d go is without cars (on those curvy roads).

Hey everyone, top gun is confirmed for air & space on the mall this Sunday March 5 at 5:15 showtime. Was thinking about starting the fun ride around 2pm starting at the Washington monument. Judd & Josephine – do you guys want to collaborate on a route with me since you two are the founding members of BFC?

I’m usually fine biking in the wind, but this morning I got caught in something ridiculous at Gravely Point. While going around the bend east of the runways a massive gust got me. I began to lean over to stay on course, which was already next to impossible with the curve and the massive gust. Of course right then another cyclist decided to pass without warning. I ended up getting blown right off the trail since I didn’t want to overcompensate and possibly cause an accident if the gust let up suddenly. Luckily I was going like 8-10 MPH at that stage and it’s soft grass, so I was fine and just re-joined the trail a few yards later. But that was one hell of a wind gust.
Otherwise lovely commute. Almost no one on the trail, and trees did a good job blocking the wind for most of my ride
It was crazy windy! Glad you were ok. Almost hit the side of 14th St bridge myself

I’ve RSVPed but not find myself potentially double booked with another reception in the early part. I need to determine whether to go all in on the WABA festivities (meeting AND awards) or if I should make an appearance at the other event then rush over to catch the awards portion.
Admittedly my decision will be based on which scenario results in me eating enough to count it as dinner… I haven’t attended this WABA event so I’m not sure if the reception is drinks and chips, or anything more substantial. (Normally I wouldn’t worry so much about it, but it will be Fat Tuesday… got to eat up before fasting!)
I’ll be there at least for the first part. Look forward to seeing Kitty and other bike friends!

I stepped out of the office this evening to find that my wheels/tires had been stolen off of my Motobecane bicycle. It was parked very publicly at the Van Ness Metro bike parking, alongside many other bikes, right beneath the security camera (we are not allowed to bring bikes into our office building, which offers no bike parking). The police came and I filed a report, for what that’s worth.
I lugged home the bike skeleton on two very crowded metro trains and another 1.5 miles. The other passengers were very kind and accommodating. By now my arms are strong enough to beat up any thieves
I am very sad. I keep reminding myself that nobody got hurt and they didn’t get my frame, which was U-locked.
Watch out for thieves.
Your friend,
&wingsI’m so sorry that happened! What is wheels&wings without wheels?!!! I’ve seen bike skeletons like that at my (home) metro station, but not experienced it (yet!). Hang in there. Hope you can use another bike or get some replacement wheels soon! I have an extra bike but I think it’d be a tad too big for you!

Sorry for being last minute, I had thought to ride along with The Corporation to Fair Winds, but not being fond of thunderstorms, I want to get my riding tomorrow done at about the time they are setting out. So it occurred to me it would be a great time to do my long planned test ride to A Baked Joint (to inspire me to actually go to FCC there one day) I will leave Park Center around 8:30AM, and would can stop to wait for people at the Shirlington Road entrance to the Four Mile Run Trail. I would want to roll from there to DC by 8:45?
Route will be 14th St Bridge>head north to right on Jefferson>left on 7th>right on Indiana> left on 5th>right on K. (hat tip JRenault) unless someone can persuade me otherwise.
This will be a coffeecatting opportunity for those who, like me, have not yet been to A Baked Joint. If it looks stormy as forecast, I will turning and heading back right away (probably after riding from A Baked Joint to my office, because TEST RIDE), otherwise might be up for more riding around.
Ride will be moderately paced, because me (this AM rode it an average speed of 12.9 MPH, my best commute so far, in ideal conditions) and will be no drop (assuming someone other than me shows up).
I would love to join. I believe I know where 4 MRT hits shirl. And will be there by 845. Thanks.

No worries. Will miss having you ride with us. I think we still have the minimum number (4) so that this is still an official BAFS team ride/event.
Who else is riding on Sunday???
I’m planning to ride Sunday – Meet at Java Shack , ride to Duffy’s. I’d love to do the route you’re doing – 18+ miles – but might be slower. Anyone else want to ride with me – I think I’ll probably average 9-12 mph rather than… 12-15?

Warming Climate Ride #2
https://www.strava.com/activities/871148983
Such an unseasonably lovely Saturday in February! My accordion and I were out in the backyard, enjoying the warm sun. Still, we were troubled. Troubled that a competitor had violated the spirit of this contest by posting a ride from a warm clime. O, why would someone choose to sully this genteel game with such an act??
“A bike ride would cheer us up,” said the accordion, and the accordion is seldom wrong. So I packed the little guy into his backpack, pulled on my swim trunks, and off we went.
