ParticipantIf I didn’t take the Ft. Meyer route, I think I would just ride Irving all the up to Wilson, take that to Veitch, hop on the Custis to Key Bridge, and down M/L.

I always wondered who owned that bike, as I would ride by it with jealousy.

ParticipantDoes the League advocate on issues like this ever? It seems to me that the best way to lobby for a change is always to lobby at the level higher than those enacting the changes. Like when we want something local in ArlCo, we don’t really lobby DES, we lobby the Board and hope they direct DES. So when things involve VDOT, ArlCo, NPS, etc., shouldn’t we really be lobbying our local congress or state reps, not the county board? It would seem to me that this is the kind of thing that LAB should help local advocates with, but I don’t know if they actually do that.

Like 12.5. He said he is interested in the Speedplays. But I think he has to try a few things out to find what he likes. I have the Frogs, but they are old-guy cleats (love them)
I’ve got a pair of Speedplay light actions currently not being used if he wants to ride with them for a while and see. By a while, I mean months, as I have no plans to use them anytime soon.

ParticipantUpdate on Water St.:
Yesterday a sign went up stating that starting on or around yesterday (I’m not totally sure if it’s happened yet) that there were new traffic patters and no parking on Water St. It appears that this might just be a change for the northern part of Water. Anyways, it appears that they are trying to keep Water St. open, and just taking away parking while construction starts. This is a very good thing for now.
As a side note, yesterday that had moving trucks pulling all of the furniture out of Phillips. Seems like work is going quickly.

Must have been after 530/6PM, right? I was on my regular Ohio Dr route at about 530 and didn’t see anything going on.
Actually on the earlier side, like 345 or so when I rolled thru, and it had already happened. It was at the intersection of Ohio and Maine, so you might not have seen it if you were just heading down Ohio along the river. It appeared that the driver was probably heading south on Maine and taking the right bend onto Ohio heading west, and went up into the median on Ohio and smashed directly into a tree.

Yesterday’s evening commute, there was a secret service car wrapped around a tree (literally) on Ohio Drive near the Jefferson / Tidal Basis. Never saw any coverage of it. Looked quite bad.
I couldn’t believe that there wasn’t anything about this, despite the fact that there were like 10 police cars responding to it. It looked awful, as you said.

Anyone have a Cross-Check or Trucker I could try?
Not sure your size, but I’ve got a 54cm Disc Trucker that you’re welcome to ride. Just to note, that size makes it 26″ wheels. If you need a different size, I’d see if Spokes has any in stock. They usually have some LHTs if not the disc, which pretty much gives you the idea.

I’d be quite interested in this demonstration as well, if that is possible.

a 26″ wheel Surly (Disc?)Trucker.
My most recent purchase was a 26″ Disc Trucker that I purchased last June. I bought it for a whole host of reasons. I wanted disc brakes and wide tire clearance. I preferred it to be a steel frame. I wanted it a little more upright. I wanted something solid enough to pull a trailer, because I knew we would be wanting kids. The DT just fit the bill. In that price range, Surly seemed to put nice components in the right places, and less where it made sense. I love the bike, and it got me thru the terrible winter months.
There are lots of other bikes I want as well. I think it’s normal and great. I’ve gone from a Giant entry level bike to a Cervelo S1 to a beat up fixie to an ’87 Cannondale S/T to the Disc Trucker (never more than two at once, but I think I’ll always own at least two). Your understanding changes, your desires and goals change, your uses change, and so you want new bikes. I’m not allowed any new bikes because of space limitations right now, but once we move, I’ll be looking to add bikes to the stable.

Or have one that’s good to ride with like this Timbuk2 Stork.
Note: I don’t actually have kids yet, so I have no idea on this kind of stuff, I just liked the bag and came across it recently.
